I apologize if I'm slow, but I'm not keeping up this morning: why can contrarians be contrarians from a surfeit of generosity? And why would consternation be avoided if wide application were granted to the principle that anyone who wants to remake Casablance deserves to? I have a guess on this one -- is it that we we're supposed to take it easy on people who remake Casablance rather than tearing them apart for both their aspiration and their product?
Contrarians: because they'll take up the side of the criticized. In a land of critics, the generous are contrarians.
Avoiding consternation: the principle is that often doing a stupid thing is its own punishment, so those who are (at the moment) not being stupid needn't concern themselves with pillorying those who (at the moment) are.
I googled for the remake story and chose the Teen Hollywood site because the story bordered on self-parody and because I thought you'd make fun of me for reading it. Score!

All I can say is this: What the hell are you doing linking to (and thus presumably reading?) a site called Teen Hollywood?
