"Wow. I'll say it again: if this touches one of the big names, Bush will not be re-elected." Oh, that's just grandstanding. He might not be elected anyway, but worse things have been wriggled out of by public figures. (For better or worse, still true.)
I've done a bit of research on the dem alternatives, & they suck. I would like to volunteer for a candidate coming somewhere close to the following criteria: aware that free trade beats protectionism for most people most of the time; moderate on taxes; not a total hypocrite or insufferable opportunist; some reasonable experience.
Dean almost fits the bill, but I don't like this stuff about "Democratic wing of the Democratic party". A health care plan I can tolerate, but is that the only meat to this tagline? Can someone support free trade & say this without being a hypocrite? Isn't it a democratic trait to support job protectionism for labor unions over the best interests of everyone else (i.e. free trade)?
Lieberman? Maybe. Kind of insufferable at a personality level, but I could stomach that.
Gephardt? Bush first. I will never vote for Gephardt. Both insufferable opportunist and labor whipping boy.
Braun? Sharpton. Ha ha.
Edwards? No experience. No platform. In the pockets of trial lawyers is almost as bad as in the pocket of unions. Still, Bush is pretty bad, so I might vote for him if he were nominated. I would never work for him.
The Dems are showing a real "Field of Weanies" in the face of a great opportunity to win swing voters (like me).
