Whoever invented the Italian Beef sandwich (especially the one they serve at Suzie's on Montrose in Chicago) automatically assumes first place in the sandwich category.
I've tried the New York Pret a Manger. It's fine, but it's -- sniff, sniff -- just not the same thing. Honestly, I'm not about to defend the stodgy pasta and the greasy fish and chips and the Mars bar fritter and the overpriced coffee that isn't even coffee, but in my humble opinion, the British DO make better sandwiches. And so convenient! you can buy a nice cheddar and spring onion at the local drugstore (er, chemist). And Marks and Spencers has it all nicely colour-coded. Damn. I'm missing those UK sandwiches.
