Seriously, does this have anything to do with the goings on around Roland Foster? We blogged that here a while back and Yuri Guri did some real reporting on it (if you follow the link to phaedo, scroll down to 6/17/03).
I think it's close, but I find this story scarier because the set of touchy topics here is broader and more mysterious. I mean, pandas?
Of course the right isn't the only side guilty of seeking short-term political gain from the public's scientific ignorance -- and from the vagaries of scientific terminology. I'm still (just a little) angry at Clinton for making fun of a federally funded Texas A&M study on plant stress, in a State of the Union address.
Leave it to the most empathetic of politicians to (choose to) interpret stress like a psychotherapist instead of like a civil engineer -- or a biologist.
