Between this, and the 1954 "United Fruit" coup in Guatemala, the US record for beneficent hegemony in the '50s was pretty poor. We have a lot to live down to this time around....
Anyway, I'm sure you've heard of Marjane Satrapi's really wonderful comic/autobiography about growing up during and after the 1979 revolution ('Persepolis') -- if you haven't read it , go get a copy right now. Seriously, find a 24 hour bookstore or something, you won't regret it.
