This Saletan article is exactly the kind of blinders-on, moral-equivalency bull I was ranting about just the other day. Saletan uses the magic word ("shrill"), trots out a couple of weak non-examples of Democrats "lying" -- by which he apparently means "vigorously attacking Bush's record and policies" -- and smugly sits back on his tuffett waiting for the fairness accollades to roll in.
Bull, bull, and nothing but bull. There is one group of politicians today who are in fact lying vastly more often, more brazenly, and about more dangerous topics than their opponents: the so-called Republicans around Bush. If you look at the record of the last three years, that's not an honestly contestable point. Not everything is a he said/she said -- sometimes one side is just plain wrong, whether they can be made to admit it or not. Bush's genius is that he recognizes that reporters like Saletan will never put that into print, and that most reporters are like Saletan.
