If you have a Mac, then you can persuade many cell phones to connect to the internet. If your cell provider provides 3G then you'll get pretty respectable speeds, about 150kbps; if not you'll get slower than dialup speeds, but still OK.
I guess you can probably do this on Windows, but I don't follow that space. Details vary depending on the cell phone and the cell company/cell plan, but it might be worth looking into.
