Thanks for the acknowledgment and the well-researched corroboration.
Agreed that your crush is both unimpeachable and apple pie. Can't you let out a better skeleton from your closet? What about Pat Benetar or Joan Jett or something from back in the day? Am I truly alone in this world????
Just hearing the name "Tawny Kitaen"-- wasn't she David Coverdale's girlfriend?-- takes me away to a special place, and if I stayed there too long, I'd probably break down and cry.
Connie Chung, on the other hand, I find just plain weird.
Before I wrote the post, I racked my brain trying to think of some day or week that I had a crush on Tawny Kitaen, because she is the perfect embarrassing celebrity crush. Bait and switch.
Connie Chung, however...yes, maybe...I don't remember how old I was when I heard her say in an interview that she'd once anchored a broadcast pantless.
I think there are a couple of things that make celebrity crushes embarrassing (and they're not mutually exclusive).
First, there's the sense that you bought what was, in retrospect, an almost wholly manufactured image that is strongly identified with a time gone by. You were, in short, a dupe.
Then there's the feeling that in admitting a crush, you're admitting something deep and secret about yourself. Liking Sammy Hagar might mean you're attracted to (transparent) bad boys, or that you like dumpy looking dudes with funny hair. The magic word "crush" almost automatically makes people attach a bunch of psychology to a preference.
Nugent's an interesting case, because I think he's not very embarrassing by the first criterion. He is and always has been what he is. A complete rocking nutter. However, he's far more embarrassing than Hagar by criterion two.

I had a feeling that wouldn't pass muster. I'm thinking, I really am. I'll post an update when the really embarrassing ones come back to me.

Fontana,
Wasn't that a Guns n' Roses song?
