Glad you liked it! I thought Croupier profoundly underrated, like too-cool-for-school protagonist Clive Owen generally. Why is Ben Affleck a star, and not Clive Owen?
Afflack is just a mystery to me. There are other uncharismatic people who have made a great go of it: Tom Hanks, for example. But Hanks seems a wrong analogy for two reasons. 1) Hanks was, at one time, a gifted comic. 2) Hanks rose to prominence as everyman, not as an action star. No one tried to cast him as freaking Daredevil for example. Although come to think of it, I would pay good money to see Hanks in "Punisher II."
Hmm. Affleck does look the part, so maybe people just keep expecting that this time he'll surprise them. He's also not so bad in "real life," or, at least, on IFC's Dinner for Five; so maybe he charms producers.
Hanks, on the other hand, I just can't abide. I won't see any Tom Hanks movies, period.
Affleck has a peculiar combination of bearing and facial features that makes me want to deck him. Fortunately I'll probably never get the chance, since I'm pretty sure he could mop the floor with me. (Also, I've never heard "early ripe, early rotten", and thought Croupier was really good. Would you believe Facets doesn't have it for rent?)
"its", dammit!

Very good question. Have we considered the possibility that Affleck's total lack of charisma is the key to his success? Somehow?
Tripp, Illinois, more or less. I think that's where I picked it up.

Why you treat me so unkind, ogged?

But, that was a compliment! I knew you had secret groovy music.

I'm not sure if I should be surprised by the fact that Ogged is a fellow member of the Hating on Tom Hanks club.

Oh. In that case all is forgiven.

Never heard it, but it's a sensible aphorism. Did you happen to read my Haytian proverbs entry of a few days ago that's still on my page?
