Re: Getting a Clue, Whatever

The evidence quoted here isn't decisive. Nor, given evidence like the astronomical difference in ratio of male-femlae prostitution that appears across cultures and times, do I think you're right to harp on Kass' alleged naivete. I hate ev. bio imperialism as much as the next Kantian, but gender differences in approach to sexuality are real. Most evidence suggests inclinication to (sexual) monogamy is one such case. Pointing that out shouldn't tar you as a sexist reactionary.

Not sure about this. I'll try to find a real answer. Of course, I'm happy to battle speculatively too, you sexist reactionary.

In my middle ages and history of modernity classes, we were taught (meaning I can't provide sources) that the perception of male/female sexuality has reversed in recent history. There seems to have been a practice, among men at risk, of discouraging sexual gratification in their wives for fear that once awakened, their libidos would become uncontrollable and the husbands would be cuckolded. "Raging balls of impure lust," was a phrase I always liked.

From personal experience, girls talk about their personal sex lives more in social situations. Also, I've never heard a guy complain he doesn't get enough sex, but I've heard it from several girls. (though this could be because the girls are more shy in initiating)

Anyway, less women cheat on men, I don't believe that's a statement about the differences betweens sexes, but much more likely seems to be an effect of social pressures. It's quite apparant in my environment that there is more pressure for girls to be monogamous, and more punishment if they're not. I also see that changing, though perhaps it's just me getting older.
