Re: Gear

I don't get it.

And the number of product manuals you were dying to read, for products you never intended to own is?

I read about programming languages I'm never going to learn. Sometimes I even download the source code of programs I don't really intend to compile and read parts of it.

Sure, I do that too, Ben. But that's seems different to me...like a book I'll never (but might!) read. Anyway, confession, I downloaded the manual and am about to go read it ;), (though I'm considering buying the camera) so I'm not expressing disapproval, just shining a bit of light on a bit of the interweb that most of the readers here probably don't frequent.

ben and ogged: have you considered the possibility that you are big nerds? lovable nerds, though.

No no, I make fun of nerds, that's how I know that I'm not one of them. Ben though, is way nerd.

I embrace my nerdlichkeit.

Once at a, uh, Latin convention, I witnessed a very bizarre conversation. The participants were Galen Duckles, a former varsity wrestler, at least 6'4", really big, shaven head, tattoos, looks very much like a biker, and Wayne Tang, who is maybe 5'4", probably would be intimidated by a 98lb weakling, big ugly nuhhhhd glasses, very socially awkward.

They were talking about firewalls, I think, and the merits of various Linux distros.

I tried to express to them that one should be beating the other up, but it never happened.

Ben Wolfson knows his gear! In reference to Galen Duckles, the man may look like an ogre, but he has a heart of gold, forquifers!
