You know who Grover Norquist is. I know who he is, too. But, most people have absolutely no idea who he is, and I doubt that Kerry would get much traction by calling him on this. Which is too bad, because I think that he pretty much embodies the goals and attitudes of the contemporary GOP.
The quote is obviously insane, but tying it to the GOP would not be easy. In particular, the crack about "obligatory military service", with its isolationist implications (sitting out WW2, not defending Korea), doesn't reflect mainstream Republican opinion.
You guys are sweethearts with all this fairness. Norquist meets regularly with folks from the White House; Norquist called the WWII generation "anti-American." It really doesn't get any easier than that. The Bushies have convinced people that he served more honorably than a wounded, decorated vet, and we can't make hay out of this? Oy.
I dunno. If this item ever got on on the media map, more than likely they would be lauding Norquist as a tax-cutting visionary, rather than as the revolting slimebag he really is.
Yeah, remember the "Coalition of the Wild-Eyed" ad, where BC04 tried to stick Kerry with images of Hitler from an ad that was submitted to (and barred from) a MoveOn.org contest? Compared to that this is a slam dunk.

Well, a competent media department would make sure that after a week, everyone in America would know Grover Norquist.

Maybe I'm just too pessimistic.

"tying it to the GOP would not be easy"
It came out of Norquist's mouth. Pretty easy tie.
"everyone in America would know Grover Norquist"
He's about to become quite familiar, says the smart money. The quote is too good to pass up. I expect to see it in an ad soon enough.
