Biology! Or should I say Ecology and Evolution? We were at a party a couple of years ago, and an old man took a shine to the "pretty young lady," and then he found out that she was part German (bad WWII memories), part Russian (bad Korean/Cold War memories), and finally, that she studied evolution. I'm not just telling tales when I say that with each revelation, you could see him harden; he went from deliberately sitting next to her to leaving without saying goodbye.
Here's a tease you'll never forgive: if I told you who this old man was, you'd think it was a cool party indeed. But I can't say without giving away where I live...
You should just tell your more ignorant readers, such as Michael and myself, who wouldn't be able to figure it out unless the place name were part of this guy's name.
Hmmm, a party with a guy who still hasn't gotten over WWII and Korean prejudices (to the point of snubbing people because of their ancestry) and who's hostile to the theory of evolution? Color me not convinced on the coolness of your party. He sounds like a dirty old man too, pawing after "pretty young ladies".
But it's a fun guessing game, especially the clue that he's associated with a specific geographic location. Ummmm, Strom Thurmond?
Cheers, toasts, and a big round of applause to the Ex, and to you for being a good sports by supporting her and being there for her. Hooray to both of you. Any possibilty of getting back together? You might not have a Ph.D. Ogged, but you have a cool blog with a loyal goup of followers!, me included. :-) I think that should qualify for her to take you back!! :-)
Hooray, ex! Go get 'em!

That's fantastic. I've got some friends on the dissertation hot seat, and it's great to hear about a happy ending.
Nice work with the ex-relations, too, btw.

Maybe you should go to parties with a younger crowd?

Heh, my father knows a man who refuses to buy a mitsubishi to this day, based on the fact they made planes that tried to kill him....

Ha! Thanks Velied. You would think that the blog would make me irresistable to the ladies, but oddly, it doesn't seem to work that way...
