Is that the title of a video ("hot barely-legal children who drink too much on New Year's and make passes at junior faculty"- available now for $19.95!) that your colleagues have on the bookshelf?
Michael and Ben, I hope you're just arguing the distinctions for the sake of noting the technical legality, because sleeping with a colleague's kid (particularly when that kid is barely not a kid), is Stoopid with a capital "T." You see that, right?
ah, just don't get caught (or get her [if it is a her], knocked up). Anyway, Plato had some arguments about the mutual beneficence of a relationship between an older, learned man and a barely-legal hottie. (Though I'm not positivie Plato used the term "hottie," the original greek will have to be checked) So the assumption that seems automatic that it is bad for the barely-legal hottie to sleep with the older philosopher, (which the father certainly seems to have made in the story mcm linked to), should not automatically be assumed. I would recommend a sociological experiment so that we have a more scientific base to proceed from. Say 100 barely-legal hotties enter into nympho-sex/pedagogical relationships with slightly older philosophers, while a control group of another 100 barely-legal hotties have their usual sex with their peers, and then we'll see who scores better on some sort of psychological test. I wonder if the government would provide grant money.
Michael, would that be a double-blind placebo test? You know, where none of the participants actually know who's a real hottie or who's a real philosopher? Or which relationship is real?
You go to much cooler parties than me.

it sucks cause then you have to ask her dad, hey is your daughter barely legal or should i turn this down. that can be a real downer man.

"barely legal" cuts both ways--is she barely past or barely to the threshold?

I retract my comment above.

legal's legal. what's the problem?

Michael,
What's the problem? Read this little gem about "Dumb-Ass Young Tenured Guy", who apparently got a 19-year old student pregnant.
On a university campus, legal is not necessarily legal.

This is a faculty member's kid, though, not necessarily a student.

Ah, okay, I get it. Well, that's even more off-limits (no matter how legal).

Really? Even if the kid is drunk at the time?

Not a good defence to get into the habit of using.
