Appropos of Ben Wolfson's disgraceful sloppiness, my modal logic professor employed the convention that the names of sentence elements just were the elements themselves, thus avoiding the need for hik to ever care about use/mention on the chalkboard. I thought this inspired.

I know that you know that the "et" in "etc" stands for "and"—but many in your vast readership may not! It was them I was thinking of.
