Funny, I actually thought about you when I read the part you excerpted, Ogged.
I took a very strong disliking to Samantha, perhaps partly due to the fact that in the photo she looks like a bitchier version of the character Charlie, played by Catherine Zeta Jones, in the film High Fidelity. But also because I know her type and her worldview and we're not in highschool anymore, you snooty soulless fuckwit!
Yeah, the other two were okay, especially the non-professional. And the two date rule is a great idea.
And I didn't mean in a poster boy kind of way, more because of the sentiment expressed in the first paragraph you excerpted, i.e. a poignant and complicated experience, but not an unspeakable tragedy or waste of time.
Every time I read an article like this NYT magazine one, I thank God that I'm married. (Fortunately my wife feels the same way.) Just the thought of having to date makes me shudder.
My favorite line is:
'Please just consider some bourgeois perturbations to what you've been thinking.

Great, poster boy for left-at-the-altar.
Samantha is definitely the least likable of the matchmakers. Programmatic, unimaginative. I kinda like Janis though.
