Re: Meth

Possibly Humboldt State.

Oh, and I actually found the article very moving; not "depresing" exactly.

horizontal rule
3

I don't know. Hampshire isn't big on meth. Campuses whose social life revolved around Greek presence might well be worse for someone with an "addictive personality" since there would be strong pressure to drink--which would even be legal.

horizontal rule
4

I haven't thought of Hampshire in years, but even just given the little bit you know about me from my blog this should make you wonder (or laugh) ... I seriously thought about going to college there. Visited it. Liked it. If I hadn't gotten accepted early at the other place, Hampshire would have had my application. Almost applied early, but after visiting thought it might be "a bit" too crunchy for the likes of me. A bit.

Yes, there is. It's name is UC Santa Cruz. Give him a pad in Felton and the kid's cooked.

And as you can see by the unwarranted apostrophe, they don't teach grammar.

B-- depressing because its happy ending is tenuous and unstable; because it reflects the powerlessness of the author to help those he loves; because it underscores the extent to which the flourishing life is subject to contingencies. Call no man happy until he is dead, as they say.

And as you can see by the unwarranted apostrophe, they don't teach grammar.

What has Wolfson wrought on this blog? I defy anyone to name another blog whose comments are so neurotically copy-edited. Fuck the apostrophe, Ezra. Go have a beer.

We need a plugin that will leave things readable, but screw up grammar and spelling just enough that we can all be liberated from our paranoia.

horizontal rule
9

Why don't we all smoke meth?

horizontal rule
10

That would work too. And we'd post more often. You buying?

horizontal rule
11

Well, I've got some leftover sudafed-- does that count? And this is part of the fun of typing "how to make crystal meth" into google.

horizontal rule
12

Wow, that's a blog. And lots of expertise on display in the comments. What a world.

Also, Sudafed makes my heart race. I'm sure meth'll be fine though.

horizontal rule
13

We're on the verge of a new theme: guys with rhythm problems take stimulants! Will Bob and Unf post more when we're dead?

horizontal rule
14

How will they find out?

horizontal rule
15

That's an excellent question. Maybe we can ask Wolfson to give them a call.

horizontal rule

17

Oh, now he's worried about seeming like a homo. Screw it. Let's take over this site!

horizontal rule
18

Give him a pad in Felton and the kid's cooked.

But . . . that apostrophe is warranted! Contraction of "kid is cooked."

horizontal rule
19

It's

horizontal rule
20

Maybe they should call that site "Steve Don't Shoot That!"

But I didn't see any mentions of Ayn Rand, she who gives 11 year-olds pure crystalline meth.

And apostropher, your comment should come with a soundtrack: the opening theme to Monty Python's Flying Circus.

horizontal rule
21

Well, I was just relieved that my typoed "depresion" didn't warrant comment. Until now.

Labs, I know what you meant by depressing. But somehow that the flourishing life is subject to contingencies seems freeing to me, somehow, too.

Or maybe I'm just fucked up.

horizontal rule
22

Labs seems to have a very acute "there but for the grace of god" sense. That makes him a generous soul, but it's probably not so much fun to be that way. But, as a friend once counseled me about a neurosis, that just might be your gift.

horizontal rule
23

That's actually true, ogged-- which is why these stories of lives going off the rails (child abuse, meth addiction) are so compelling. If they ever catch me doing lines off of some 12 year old, have sympathy.

horizontal rule
24

Only if she's cute, dawg.

horizontal rule
25

New low?

horizontal rule
26

Every twelve year old is cute when you're doing meth, right?

horizontal rule
27

In the race to the bottom, the apostropher is Ben Johnson.

horizontal rule
28

Did you just accuse me of cheating?

horizontal rule
29

But who is Shakespeare?

horizontal rule

I went to Hampshire and never came across any meth in my four years there. I also never felt any pressure to try anything i didn't want to. Like 'jam' suggested, I imagine peer pressure at Hampshire is below average in comparison to other colleges.

That said, I can see why it wouldn't be the best place for a recovering addict. Recent studies suggest meth addicts will be less likely to relapse if the stay away from alcohol and marijuana, and there certainly access to those things at Hampshire.
