Q: Do you favor preemptive strikes against sovereign states as a way to control terrorism? If so, under what conditions should the U.S. apply this policy? If you don't favor a policy of preemptive strikes, what strategies would you pursue to control terrorism?
Candidate response is not yet available.
That's because Sam never answers the questions. He just spews the same boilerplate, election after election .
Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas), a classmate of Rep. Chet Edwards (D), with whom he has served in the House for 14 years, last week comparing his colleague to Jane Fonda, a stunning insult to a lawmaker who is the top Democrat on the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee and has represented Fort Hood his entire time in the House.
But that's ok: Chet won.
I'm having my girlfriend call his district office tomorrow and see what THEY say about nuklear weapons. (I'm in 32, she's in 3. And she has mad phone skillz. Plus, she's a she.)
Mark me down as bitterly disappointed. Your more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger Glenn Reynolds impersonation would have been a thing of beauty, a triumph of the artistic spirit, a wonder for the ages...
Maybe my mind is overheated and too reliant on analogies, but when people say "nuke 'em," what I hear is "final solution." And, as you all point out, this is now close to the mainstream view (if not policy) of the Republicans.
Most annoying thing about Ward Churchill is potential Colorado legislative push to put in post tenure review. Ugly. Won't pass, but people are running for cover.
So, left wing loonies are relegated to obscurity at random universities, while right wing loonies are supported for public office where their looniness doesn't so much define the fringe boundaries of acceptable public discourse so much as it sets actual frigging national policy.
Excellent. This bodes extremely well for the future of our nation.
Feh. Sam Johnson, 2004 DaMN candidate questionaire:

But he's always good for a classy move:

And damned funny besides.

The wingnut talking point trolls are already out in force, defending it as mere hyperbole and equating him to various Democratic legislators.
*Sigh*

And here's the lovely and talented Ann Coulter getting pwned -- in the parlance of our times-- by Alan Colmes on a similiar subject.

But ogged, this will be a compassionate final solution. Can't you liberals understand that?

"Nuke 'em" does equal "final solution." No observer bias there.
