Any definition of what "Sexually explicit content" is? Is any movie where a character sez "Fuck you" one of those? If so, um, pretty much nobody's getting the rate, except maybe Pixar.
Go to Section 102(a). This enacts a new Section 199 of the Internal Revenue Code. Section (a) of new 199 creates a deduction for "qualified production activities." Section (c)(1) defines qualified production activities with reference to "domestic production gross receipts." Section (c)(4)(A)(i)(II) defines "domestic production gross receipts" as, in part, gross receipts of a taxpayer arising from a "qualified film". Section (c)(6) excludes from the definition of qualified film those films for which records must be kept under title 18, Section 2257 of the U.S. Code.
Section (a)(1) imposes record keeping requirements on anyone who, among other things, produces a film which contains visual depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct.
I feel like I read somewhere that the porn industry is bigger than mainstream movies, in terms of the money involved. Since it's an "I feel like I read somewhere," I won't stand behind it to the death, but it sounds realistic.
Is there some kind of documentation available for this? It's a pretty perfect summation of Republican governance.

That seems to be a term of art, which means "porn."

First, go to this link:
This is the text of the new tax law.
Go to Section 102(a). This enacts a new Section 199 of the Internal Revenue Code. Section (a) of new 199 creates a deduction for "qualified production activities." Section (c)(1) defines qualified production activities with reference to "domestic production gross receipts." Section (c)(6) excludes from the definition of qualified film those films for which records must be kept under title 18, Section 2257 of the U.S. Code.
Then go to this link:
This is Section 2257.
Section (a)(1) imposes record keeping requirements on anyone who, among other things, produces a film which contains visual depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct.

But doesn't this just make porn more important to the nation?
As in "if it weren't for the continued success of the porn industry, we wouldn't be able to find the revenues to pay for defense spending".

Once again, I warn you not to generalize from personal experience.

So does this mean that pirating porn is a means of protesting the war?

Wouldn't recommend it. I heard the IRS gets cross really quickly with people who aid tax evasion.
I can see the wing nuttery though: "Voyeurs for Tanks"
(Thats the family-edited version)

If this tax survives the Larry Flint backed constitutional challenge I will eat my hat.

Without knowing anything about your hat, FC, that's not much of a statement.

My hat is composed entirely of hard salami.

Is it just my friend, or do lots of people call condoms "bunny hats?"
Posted by ogged | Link to this comment | 03-23-05 2:11 PM
Jimmy hats I've heard. Bunny hats I've not.

From "fucking like bunnies," I think.
