My only peripheral interest in this trial is the different media reaction to White Celebrity Accused (again) of child molestation, and Black Celebrity Accused of child molestation.
Hard to say because I never talk to people about such matters, nor do I really watch TV, but it seems the coverage so far has lacked a certain amount of disgust that one may have expected given the nature of the accusations, which might be attributed to the interracial quality of Jackson himself.
So who is the Black Celebrity Accused of child molestation?
The Boondocks had a good one today. Bill Cosby is grumping that Michael Jackson's jury is all-white. Granpa says something along the lines of "So? A jury of his peers!"
The black celebrity is two people. One is MJ; just because he's white now doesn't mean that black people don't still racially identify with him to some extent. The second is just a hypothetical in my imagination. I wonder about the difference in the media reaction were, for instance, MJ still black.
Your MT install HATES my firewall. I can't see any locally hosted images at all, not even your banner. Pretty please, could you check your image and security settings and see if you've got something unusual selected?
Couldn't the proxy just be configured to send an HTTP-REFERER[sic] header that was equal to the name of the server where the image was stored when it fetched it? Or the browser could be--I know Opera allows that kind of hax0ry.
Ack! I feel so rude -- I didn't realize you had replied to my other plea. Obviously I don't want to see your bandwidth get ripped off, but it appears to be a somewhat common problem if Gary's dealing with it, too. But yes, perhaps Ben's solution would work, not that I've ever worked with .htaccess myself.
.htaccess is on my end. Ben, I think, is talking about yoru proxy settings, or what's called you "user agent" settings (I think) in your browser. Maybe he'd like to explain it to you ;)
No, User-Agent is the browser you're using. As I understand what's going on, the .htaccess is preventing people from accessing your images from another site so your bandwidth isn't drained, and it probably does that by checking the REFERER header sent along with http requests. If you're going through a proxy, then you're not going to be browsing the page directly, and I suppose it's possible that the proxy would be configured in such a way that it either (a) wouldn't cache images or (b) would cache images but can't get them. You'd have to talk to whoever runs your proxy to sort that out, though.

She was 17. People find that more understandable than 13, I think.

Running a firewall or behind a proxy, Gary? I'm really not sure how to fix this without allowing hotlinking. I'll look into it.

Yep. I don't know how he did it but he's whiter than my shapely irish/scandanavian butt.

Not to be picky (Ok, to be picky), but isn't there a little (unintentional) prejudice in your title?
Posted by Michael | Link to this comment | 03-10-05 7:39 PM
No, but there's a lot of racial baggage in Jackson's apparent belief that white is better, and the title makes fun of him for it.

So, could this be considered "passing"?
Or does that only apply to people whose skin color stays relatively constant, but who quietly assume a new identity and hide the old?

ah, sarcasm, got it.
