I would hire someone with a philosophy degree over someone with a business degree, but that's only because i can only afford to pay philosophy degree wages...
I don't know about you, MW, but most of my philosophy major peers are too busy living the high life to bother blogging! Once my stipend kicks in ($200,000 for 9 months, not bad though I'd like some summer support) you can bet I'll have more important things to do.
I'd just like to record that as of now (11:20 am CET) I have had 15 enquiries, of which 3 or 4 look to be really interesting. I shall respond personally to all of you, but please understand that unless i write a standard letter, which I won't do, this will take time.
Thanks for the interest, and I' m only sorry we can't take everyone who's shown an interest. I' m so glad I don't hire for a living.
Thanks for the post, Ogged.
I'm serious about my intent here. Obviously no promises can be made but, as I wrote in the comment, I' m more than willing to try this route.
You have my word, we will not sell you into slavery... Well, only into the kind demanded by shareholder value.

Ben, can we afford you?

I wish all businesses had in-house philosophers. I would consult the one at mine all the time.
I see a story in this.

Austro, can you afford anyone less?

Ben.. you' re hired be here Monday.

ac, I was going to respond with a snark about managers and sitting on fences, but I dont have the heart to follow through.
FWIW. If a Philosophy graduate can be pragmatic, I ll them over a business studies graduate anyday and I know that is going to earn me some hate.

Shit, I'm in an MBA program (albeit not a name one), and I'd agree wholeheartedly.

Dammit, Michael, I was about to leave a comment about how no one had commented for an hour and a half (on the whole site, I mean).
Anyway, I would also hire someone with a philosophy degree over a business major.

It's good to be the king.

Well, understand that any hiring I'm likely to do is for jobs teaching philosophy.
Now, I've been wondering: Where are all the philosophy-major bloggers?

Awesome stipend! That should cover rent!

That should cover rent!
Only if he's willing to commute from an outlying town, say, Yreka.
