Re: Being and Time Translation

If I may make an appeal?

I have set up an amazon associates link from my blog in order to support a children's charity based in Austria (but operating world wide). If anyone felt like clicking through from there to amazon, we could donate 5% of the collective cost of the books.

If you do this, thanks. If you feel I'm being unashamed, I understand. There are some things I really care about though.

Not a regular reader, but your B&T translation problem is one I had myself in trying to get a reading group going on that work.

I would recommend you read this by Thomas Sheehan before embracing the Stambaugh:

Personally, I'm awaiting a better translation before returning to B&T (I got through division I in the M/R transl., some time back). I would suggest M/R because (1) their terms have been picked up or critiqued by the literature and (2) they're pretty open about their diction & reasoning. JS is a slob by comparison.

Yeah, I know, and I've read that Sheehan article, but there isn't going to be a new translation of B&T for a very long time, I'd guess. MR was around for what, thirty years? And Stambaugh's isn't even ten years old yet. I read MR when I read it, and I still have mine, so I can refer to its notes, and we have some German speakers in the group, so we should be ok.

Bonne chance, then. Looking forward to the blog!
