Re: The Fun Part

Good night to be a Tarheel.

What the hell happened with Jarret JackFelton and May went way too high. And, of course, it is never a good move to waste the #1 pick on a big white doofus; it pretty much guarantees he'll be a stiff.

Err, "Jack? Felton"

I don't know that Felton and May went too high, given the team that picked them. Charlotte's gotta get some spectator butts in seats. Two UNC stars from the national championship team is a decent start, though aside from Emeka Okafor, there isn't much else on that roster.

Jack was a total steal at #22, though getting traded to the Blazers has to sting. Of the four UNC players drafted, McCants is stepping into the best situation. I suspect he's going to flourish in Minnesota.

What was the deal with Toronto picking Villanueva that early? Bizarre pick and their GM's explanation of it didn't clear it up any.

Well, he'll have Spree as a mentor. That has to work out well.

Heh.

May's a sucky Corliss Williamson and an (ultimately) wasted pick. I want to like Felton's game, but I don't, and it's been a long time (Phil Ford?) since UNC produced a PG I really liked. Getting local heros may work over the short term (two seasons?), but over the long term people want horses (or so said Moneyball). I really, really like McCants for some reason, and want him to do well. Unfortunately, I expect him to be a more volatile Artest.

As for the rest of the draft: Jeebus. I now assume that Toronto's GM is actively working to drive the franchise into the ground; it must be some sort of bankruptcy play, maybe having something to do with the larger organization and a union, or a tax write off. Nothing else makes any sense at all. Also , I wonder if the Pacers, with Granger, got the steal of the draft.

What I really don't understand about the Raptors is how, after they were interested in Granger at #7, they could pass on him at #16. I don't get that at all.
