How can we be sure you even made the completion, much less did the Icky Shuffle?
This arouses your suspicion? You're fine with the celibate Iranian who blogs all day, swims with a Swedish Olympian, and listens to country/roots music, but the Icky Shuffle is too much?
I suspect you misread Armsmasher. He was calling you an unathletic git, unable to catch a simple pass. Doing the Icky Shuffle has a necessary precondition--being able to do something moderately coordinated. Basically, he called you less than a man.
Yeah, I too got nuthin. Too busy with work. No, seriously, I'm trying to finish a paper. Sadly, the whole thing has been structured to lead to an exciting, intriguing conclusion-- but now that it's time to write the exciting conclusion, I can't seem to get it right. This is what Quine called teh suxx.
You know, I think the ab-ex artist for S&Z would be Barnett Newman, but there's a lot of room for interpretation here. Newman did the Obelisk in the lobby of the new MoMA, if you've been. He was a bit new-agey about it but his work was about a Frege-esque investigation of singular principles (see all those single vertical lines?). But the ab-ex is definitely the ontological art genre.
Is there anything more earnest than using your spare time to moderate an online reading group devoted to an obscure (okay, just to me) german philosopher's incredibly dense and idiosyncratic prose?
More power to you. It's certainly an unusual hobby. I wonder if it's more a cause or consequence of the celibacy.
I got nuthin, neither. My wit's gone slack and I'm lost in the doldrums. Something's gone and knocked our ations out of whack—inspir, desper, intim, and narr. No? Even now I'm just writing to say Howdy. So:
The one I was thinking of is: "Two ice cubes are melting in a tray of ice. One says to the other, "Help me! Help me! I'm melting." The second says, "Aaah! A talking ice cube."
I finished Harry Potter last night. The guess by some commenter as to who R.A.B. is strikes me as obviously right. When R.A.B.'s note refers to the true Horcrux does he just mean the real version of that locket or do you think that there is something about that particular Horcrux that is more important than the other three still outstanding? How spoiler intensive can our discussion of this be?
After that feature on RSS readers? Don't be modest, Ogged.

I think the new name is going to his head.

Oggedsmasher!
. . . okay, I'm done.

I thought the purpose of the update was to cast oneself in a decidedly non-boring light, not to demonstrate athletic ability.
Posted by eb | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 4:11 PM
eb, it was just sumthin, as opposed to nuthin; I wouldn't call it "decidedly non-boring."
Posted by ogged | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 4:13 PM
indecisively non-boring

I've played 13 games of chess since sunday.

Has anyone read this book on the Philosophy of Boredom?
Posted by bostoniangirl | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 5:00 PM
You could make a reading list out of this.
Posted by eb | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 5:18 PM
Hows the philosophy reading group going? Have you finished with the book (I forget, was it being and time?)?
Posted by cw | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 7:28 PM
Never mind, I found the link upper left and checked it out myself. I'll assume ogged is busy writing his overdue precis.
Great look. I love the Rothko at the top and the color scheme.
Posted by cw | Link to this comment | 07-28-05 8:42 PM
Hey bub, I'm selflessly stepping into the breach to write someone else's precis.
Glad you like the look. I had the impression that others didn't much like it. But those others didn't realize they were looking at Rothkos.

I was very disappointed, when I finally saw it, with how small Onement I is.
his work was about a Frege-esque investigation of singular principles (see all those single vertical lines?)
Expand?

heck, I'd just like to have an office where someone could hit me with a pass.
Operative words: "with a pass"

I too am between non-work gigs but that is a good thing. The kiddie-summer stuff is over and the fall-school stuff hasn't started.
It gave me a chance to ready Harry Potter, which filled a couple evenings. Anyone care to talk about that?

That joke seems to be a variant on a well known joke which I have heard told featuring either a talking ice cube or a talking baked good of some sort.
Posted by washerdreyer | Link to this comment | 07-29-05 9:24 AM
It made me think of this joke:
Two penguins taking a bath together. The first says "Hey can you hand me the soap?" The second replies "I'm not a clock!"

Good question - ogged?
In the meantime here is a non-spoiler about the latest Harry Potter - I spotted a mistake on page 10. Did anyone else see it?
Posted by Tripp | Link to this comment | 07-29-05 9:36 AM
Gah! No spoilers, please.
But, yes, Tripp, my wife and I have actually found about 3 or 4 typos so far, and we're only on chapter 8.
