Obviously, this reveals that Republicans think that being gay is bad and being called gay is a terrible insult -- someone needs to start a foundation for putting Republicans through Jungian analysis to get this projection problem taken care of.
The main thrust of "leftist" claims that certain right-wingers are gay does not seem to me to indicate that "leftists" think gay people are gross, but rather that there are gay people everywhere, in every walk of life, and that it's hypocritical that most parts of the right wing require someone to go to elaborate lengths to hide, deny, or repress those feelings. They also probably take the "vulgar Freudian" position that when you repress sexual desires, bad things happen. It probably would be better if "leftists" would be more clear about the premises of such rhetoric, and it might be better to just stop altogether, since I'm not sure what is gained other than amusement, and it gives the idiots a chance to say, "see, they're the real homophobes!" -- when in fact, as I've said, the real objection is so clearly that, to their mind, being called gay is one of the deepest possible insults.
That strategy is done for. We coastal/northeast elitists have no choice but to retreat to our traditional party roots, as plantation owners—a more couth era.
Traditional party roots as plantation owners who are simultaneously plotting the overthrow of our own aristocracy with tracts by the likes of Emma Goldman and Abbie Hoffman, you mean. Mustn't forget that aspect of us.
Did you click through to the original post at the Manhattan Offender? Dude is clearly joking. (As is Wonkette, obviously.) They couldn't even find some nutcase at the Democratic Underground making the claim. The Powerline guys are fucking around, but I think Charmaine Yoest might be an actual idiot. With a PhD! Haha! Anyway, we should be reading her.
Well, it's worth pointing out that once a large chunk of the Democrats had gone from the Congress, it became much more pacific.
You don't have to go to the Civil War, though. Legislators engaged in dubious physical activities during the debate around WWI. I believe Sen. Lodge punched a constituent, and La Follette might have gone around armed. 'Course, I'm sure a lot of Senators do that now as a matter of course.
Ah yes, Powerline. Once again proving that we are jumped up monkeys with too-big foreheads and too-little hair, complete with monkey instinct to hoot, howl, and fling feces at all monkeys who are not part of our own pride. Powerline can be summarized as thus:
Hoo hoo hoo hoo HOOOWWWL! [FLING! FLING! FLING!]
Especially when it comes to defense of the Alpha Male of their pride of monkeys.
Of course, we do have that big forehead, if we chose -- and had education -- to use it. But many people lack both motivation and education to make their head hurt using that "logic" and "reasoning" stuff.
Thus it's monkeys all the way down to the gutter, complete with flinging of feces. Hoo hoo hooo HOOOWWWL! [FLING FLING FLING].

Have you seen the new t-shirt ad which accompanied that story? I am somewhat surprised to not see more (than zero) Manhattan hipsters wearing those ironically.
The prime minister, wounded in the hand, the thigh and the middle abdomen, staggered into parliament with his gun in his hand and managed to reach the government bench. He was immediately surrounded by his supporters who quickly procured a doctor, although Zogu at first did not want to see him because he did not know him.
The scene in parliament was understandably tense, most of the deputies seemed to recognise the danger of an open gunfight since everyone present was armed. The president of the parliament, Eshref Frasheri, and his staff had crowded into the corner of the hall while shooting continued in the forehall between Walter and the followers of Zogu. Walter, who had locked himself in the bathroom, commenced singing patriotic songs as he shot through the doors. After the assailant had been subdued... Zogu from his bench announced in a loud voice, 'Gentlemen, this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened. I ask my friends to leave it alone and deal with it afterwards."
I gather Hindrocket isn't actully very familiar with U.S. history, or at least its history of political rhetoric, in the 18th and 19th centuries. Shocking, I know.
I suspect not, but on the other hand, the last comedian Hindrocket "really liked" was Jack Benny so, y'know, take his opinions exactly as seriously as they deserve to be taken.
re 20 & 21: hilariously, the main page of thoseshirts.com has the definition of "humor" feature prominently. perhaps those unable to figure out that this roberts-is-gay thing is a joke should familiarise themselves with it.
The bigger point is that they see themselves here. "Look, people who oppose him are starting to whisper about him being gay. We better nip this in the bud before the whisper campaign becomes overt."
This is how the Republicans really do play the game -- think "Swift Boat Veterans." It has proven effective, and it could be effective here. Unfortunately from the Machiavellian perspective, the Democrats aren't organized enough to play that game.
I like how Hinderboy gets all upset at the "Left's" lack of restraint and civility, and then throws in a totally irelevant and deliberately misleading line about the Democtats "fighting to preserve slavery."

Hineymissile won't ever forgive the Jews for killing Jesus, either, so why should he forgive us slave-owning Dems? Of course, Dems were also the only ones capable of actually emerging victorious from a few wars. The Republicans only can claim the Civil War win, but these days, I'm thinking letting the South secede mighta been a good thing.
Not to ruin a good joke, but when the reliably "fair and balanced" Juan Williams reported on NPR this morning that people have questions about Roberts' devout Catholicism and marriage at a fairly late age to another devout Catholic with whom he adopted two children (including the dancing queen pictured in the post), is this what he's talking about? did Juan Williams just call Mrs. Roberts a beard on public radio?
Why does Hinderaker sound so much like one of those parents who grants a jailhouse interview in order to carefully explain the reasoning that led him to murder his/her entire family?
Hi everyone my name is Brad but most of my friends call me MARY or MISS THING! LOL! and yes I AM a Patriot/Christian/Conseravtive. I am ALSO a gay/homosexual.
I would just like to say that remember when "Miss" Wonkette tried to say that Our President Mr. George W. Bush (our commander in CHIEF as well) was a homosexual just because he had that Jeff Gannon (the male prosititute/hooker) coming to his press releases? Well when is it a crime to have a gay in the White Hosue? (Especially a "cute" one LOL.) That is the problem with these Liberals is that they try to say that WE are the bigots when it was them!
A young "friend" of mine is very good frends with Jena Bush (the plumper one of the twins) and he has been to the White House many times and even met with our president and was VERY nice to him but certainly not too nice if you know what I mean! Why would anyone accuse that Great man of being gay!? For one thing, everyone knows that our military (of which he is the LEADER) does not allow gays/lesbians. While we are in a WAR how does that look to be saying that the leader of the whole army is not following the rules himself!? What if those Soldiers think it is actually true and stop following olders because it is from a gay???
Now I support Gay Rights (I AM one, LOL) but I think Miss Wonkette has a lot to Answer to if even one military man (or WOMAN!) dies because of what She said.
