I forgot my favorite book of the last five years - Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathon Lethem. Try that next year. Of course, I would read Jared Diamon and not even feel like a tool, so take it for what it's worth.
Motherless Brooklyn is fabulous; the Tourettic writing was just amazing. I actually loaned my copy of that book out yesterday. As She Climbed Across the Table is another good one by Lethem.
Disgrace is great.
Any readers have thoughts on Marc Estrin?
