Coming in late, but you must be talking about some "special" asshole category. I don't think that Garrison K. can compete in the open category with the rockers, jocks, and Hollywood types.
Hemingway was always a dick, but when young, he was a smart, gifted dick, and performed manly feats of strength.
When he was old, he was a self-induglent, fat dick; he wrote incoherent novels about the types of food he liked to eat, and talked primarily about performing manly feats of strength.
he could demonstrate the qualities, perhaps, and then we could analyze which things he said made him an asshole, and which a dick, which things made him dog poo, which things more akin to a douche.

James Joyce was a dick.

I should probably modify that to, at least somewhat of a dick, to my knowledge.

You're saying is the man behind FL is a dick, right?

I meant "dick", of course.
Distinctions are important, I know, I know. Slip of the tongue, really! I know the difference, whatever it is.

At least in his later years, Hemingway was a dick.
Kerouac was more of an asshole than a dick.

I'm not all that clear on the distinction between the two.

The asshole is what you poop out of.
The dick is what you pee out of (if you're a man).
Really, people.

Seriously--
for me, "Dick" connotes "self-awarely arrogant."
"Asshole" connotes, "jerk, unlikeable, frequenty unaware of own jerky/unlikable qualities."
But largely they're interchangeable.

The difference is explicated here:

I have no idea how that link made it through the content filter on the connection in my office.
Re 9: Mocking me with sentences that end with prepositions, eh? The enforcers around here must really be slipping.

Your slur is one up with which I will not put.

He probably couldn't explicate the difference between asshole and dick either, I imagine. Unless it were misspelled.

13, I'm sorry- should have noted that the text mightn't have been work-safe.
