In fact, I already told you so. Don't you trust my aesthetic judgment? What reason could you possibly have for thinking we might disagree?
(Data points: I thought Meet the Parents was not actually a comedy but a bizarre exercise in the cinema of cruelty, and I like Dodgeball, though I think not as much as 40yov.)
Salon and Spring Street have become rather expensive. Cheaper personals amusement could happen through a site like OKCupid (.com). You can answer questions and take all manner of tests to help refine their matching. I've a joke profile up and it regularly produces statements like users similar to me are "kinkier" or "less radcliffy" (WTF?) than me.
Hmm, how shall i say this? ogged, could you leave the southernisms to Apostropher? from you they seem like my dad talking about hippies. no offense meant, of course. but my dad did run for congress as a republican, and was totally aware of the southern strategy.
Yes, in a fair universe the term wouldn't be confined to the Southern ghetto. Unfortunately, I've heard way too many non-Southerners use it for second person singular, which doesn't sound so much Southern as retarded. To his credit, our resident Shi'ite carpetbagger consistently uses it correctly.
I think "you-uns" counts as a different word or two.
There's actually a lot of regional words for second person plural, I think; isn't "yez" used somewhere? (Too bad the Dictionary of American Regional English isn't up to Y!) (OK, there seems to be a Zappa song called "Rudy wants to buy yez a drink," but he's not my go-to source on colloquialisms.) But the only one that can be used without many people (wrongly) deciding you're ignorant is the Southern one. Discuss.
Always ahead of the curve on the pop culture beat,
Holy mixed metaphor batman!

Hey, time for blogads to pay for the personals. Blogging your visit with your tax preparer alone would make it worth it.

This strategy will backfire on the Salon/Onion/Springstreet Networks personals. The 30 dollars a month will not fly.

Ogged, why are you so afraid of love?

ogged, have you seen the 40-yr old virgin? How does it compare to the WC?

I haven't seen that, but I'm sure it's not funny.

In truth, I do want to see 40YOV.

Snees, more than twice as many y'all here than at the apostropher's.

Most instances of the term at my site were left by others in the comments.
Posted by apostropher | Link to this comment | 09-14-05 3:36 PM
"Y'all" is a perfectly acceptable word. English doesn't have another plural "you" distinct from the singular, excepting "youse guys."

What about 'yinz'? (Can I get a second?)
Posted by Matt Weiner | Link to this comment | 09-14-05 5:17 PM
I'd forgotten about yinz, although I prefer the spelling (and pronunciation) "you-uns" on purely aesthetic grounds.

I thought "yez" was a variant of "youse" which is just "you"--both singular and plural, hence the "guys" formulation in 16.
Posted by Chopper | Link to this comment | 09-15-05 11:16 AM
'Yinz' or 'Yunz', but often with 'guys' tacked on the end anyway. As in 'Hey, yinz guys, it's Friday!!!'
