SB's on the mark. Pathetic laziness. And you self-poached an old post from two years ago this morning. We know nothing's keeping you up at night, so what gives? Allergies?
I didn't mean to be non-responsive. I meant to be lazy and inarticulate.
I know you meant well, but I do think it's poaching.
If the point is to draw (deserved) attention to Becks' blog, I wouldn't reprint the meat of her post verbatim. That way a casual reader has no incentive at all to click through, instead of just a little incentive.
I did click through, because it was Becks. If it gad been some random non-Mineshaft Joe, I probably wouldn't have. After I read y'all's comments here, I went back and posted a comment. It's just me and ogged so far. Why haven't the rest of you?
Surely more people would have clicked through if I'd omitted the the quoted part, but I'm not sure how significant the effect is: it seems to me that click-throughers and non-click-throughers are types more than behaviors. I don't expect that this will be my only chance to link to Becks' site, and building traffic (if that's even something she's interested in), is, in my experience, more effectively done with several mentions than one prominent mention.
One could even argue that associating Becks with the good part quoted makes those who don't click through this time more likely to click through at another time, even in the absence of good quote.
Oh, quit nitpicking, everybody. They're right on the verge of moving in together anyhow, and then she'll be recounting Ogged's blurry memories of possibly having a threesome with the neighbors.
Furthermore, take a look at Brad DeLong's blog, where nearly every post is a so-called "poached" post; a deliberate consequence of Brad's fight against linkrot. Maybe you should take your Rules for Bloggers over there, Mr. Bridgeplate.
What's worse is that people are now complaining about ogged's post-theft on Beck's actual post - which merely contaminates Becks's thread through unwanted oggedification. Really, people: netiquette is boring; ogged is boring; why do you want to borify up someone else's gay indian roommate post?
Is Wehttam Saiselgy owed the same deference and adulation that the other guy was? Or does he, in posting under a pseudonym, forfeit the privileges afforded to someone posting on his own fansite?
If I had been here at the time, I would have conceded that ogged had a point with 11, and that I was hasty, hasty, hasty to scold him. I apologize for starting a sucky thread.
Looks like I should have waited to publish that post until an evening I was going to be home! Don't worry -- I in no way feel poached. If anything, I see inspiring a Mineshaft comment thread as a good thing because I feel more comfortable accessing that site than my own when I'm at work. I always wait until I'm using my home connection to comment on my site.
Post-poaching is teh gauche.

You think this is a poached post?
Posted by ogged | Link to this comment | 10-11-05 4:21 PM
Which post do you think will garner more comments, yours or Becks'?
Posted by Standpipe Bridgeplate | Link to this comment | 10-11-05 4:25 PM
Non-responsive.
What would you have had me do? (Keeping in mind that lots of people don't click through.)

I was just about to type a comment, LB. Yours jumped ahead of mine in the queue while I was typing. I rushed right back here to set it straight.

No, I know, and I was trying to "apologize" playfully.

I think we need a conference on meta-blogging ethics.
Is Becks named after the green-bottle beer? Good choice, I say.

Testy, testy. Chopper has it in for you, ogged over at Beck's place.
What exactly is linkrot?
I find that I don't read through those long blockquotes on Delong's site. He should format them differently, I think.

Linkrot.

Post-poaching isn't but comment poaching is.

I would not have clicked through, but now am more likely to do so the next time Becks is mentioned. Everyone wins.
Posted by baa | Link to this comment | 10-11-05 6:27 PM
Becks's post is fine, but this one's missing a derogatory slur against Warren Sapp.
Posted by Armsmasher | Link to this comment | 10-11-05 6:31 PM
I might have had a threesome with Warren Sapp and a gorilla, but I can't quite remember. Goddamn, I'm sore, though.

Ogged's racist football commentary is distinctly second-rate. These guys are real pros.

Wehttam, any story behind your handle?

pjs, I think we need ogged's powers of indiscreet IPing to settle that one.

NO! Wettham Saiselgy is brained!
Posted by apostropher | Link to this comment | 10-11-05 7:26 PM

Post clearly not poached -- at first glance it looks more over easy.
(And since I'm teh threadkiller, I'm betting the comments are too. Over. Wasn't that easy?)
