Re: Holidays Are A Time For Reflection

"I wonder if the OSM folks ...."

Dunno, but isn't that kinda some weeks ago?

No.

The deep voice thing isn't news at all; it ties in nicely with one of Farber's latest rants.

My hostility comes mostly from the fact that everything that's bad about the MSM is worse about OSM. And for such a remarkably content-free site, it certainly is brimming with sloppy mistakes that would below most blogs, much less actual media entities with, y'know, editors and stuff.

The very first line on their website right now:

"In honor of Black Friday, the day's busiest shopping day,"

If they can't even read their own articles, how do they expect us to?

I was also irked by the earlier post today about Pinochet's arrest. I live in Chile and would, in theory, be interested to see what blogs can offer that the MSM can't. They linked to about 20 blogs, so I read on with excitement. Surely, when talking about a controversial subject like this, someone must have a new opinion or an interesting angle or, hell, a personal anecdote?

As it happens, there was one person who had seen Pinochet in public once and described his revulsion. Other than that, it was a string of identical Al Capone references (ol' Augusto got hit with a tax evasion charge, and not for the first time, although from reading the informed comment, you'd never know that). A Technorati search would've turned up more interesting posts, so what's the point of having actual humans aggregate the links?

(I haven't actually looked at the site. And why should I? I don't watch cable TV news either.)

Logo questions:

1> Is that a robe? Wouldn't that make it Robe Media?

2> Do the wave things shooting out from the sides indicate...media waves? Like the CIA shooting stuff into your brain? Except this is like talking points brain programming?

3> Or does it suggest to anybody else, like it does to me, that the robes smells bad, albeit perhaps in an electromagnetic way?

Ergo, shouldn't it be Smelly Olde Robe media?

William Buckley, say, lounging in his 40 year old robe, smoking a pipe, perhaps after he's had a heart attack and been decomping for a week.

Just asking.

I think the curved lines look more like indicators for twitching, trembling, or dancing. Yeah--Trembling Bathrobe Media, my new fave news source!

Or they could be converging on the bathrobe, preparing to crush it in steely blue jaws, while, unaware of the fate that awaits it, the robe prepares to sing "Danny Boy". Crush it, steely blue parentheses! crush it quickly!

Great. Throbbing Sensei Media.

No--better yet, RIC FLAIR MEDIA. Wooooo!

I waiting for news that the 'Y' symbol on the robe represents some tantric wiccan chromosomal cult.

Kind of has an ankh thing going on, doesn't it?

1:

Gary, their website is still osm.org, so calling them OSM folks still seems to be reasonable.

Yer right. Damn. And the hood hole is the same place as the um, ankh, um, hole {symbolic}.

So its the electromagnetic (magick?) power of the clothed ankh.

All hail Ra!

decomping

Hey is that an actual idiom or just made up for the occasion?

horizontal rule

And the hood hole is the same place as the um, ankh, um, hole

Nonono, see the ankh is printed on the robe and it wraps around to the rear. When you wear the robe your neck (phallus) is poking up through the ankh (womb) and you are enfolded in the holy tantrus of blogging.

I thought the ankh hole was part of the foot?

Hey is that an actual idiom or just made up for the occasion?

I keep hearing decomp in various places, so decomping doesn't seem like a stretch.

Womb? As in tomb? Of Ra?

Enfolded doesn't seem right. I would think you'd be looking for a word that goes with 'toothy vagina'.

One foul swoop?

How long until we find out someone has already trademarked a very similar vibrating robe logo?

Actually my band in college was The Vibrating Nightgowns but we never copyrighted ourselves, damn the luck.

Decompensating is what happens as a person with heart failure begins to accumulate fluid in the chest cavity and the heart becomes more "baggy." The efficiency of the heart muscle goes radically down as the left ventricle struggles to pump enough blood. As I understand it--and I'm by no means on certain ground here--this can happen in a post-myocardial-infarction setting, as the areas of the heart affected by the MI scar/become necrotic and no longer function properly. However, I believe the time frame is a bit longer than a week.

Also, dammit LB, I was going to make the ankh snark. This is what I get for leaving the Internet for 3 days. (Isn't there some way to tie this into the wingers freakout about the 9/11 memorial that's vaguely crescent chaped, and thus a symol of Islam?)
