Re: Your Very Own Zizka

1

I'd like to make my donation contingent on a sincere effort on Emerson's part to seduce IA.

horizontal rule
2

Best idea you've ever had.

horizontal rule
3

The question is, if that was really her, how long has she been a reader? If not a regular reader, how did she happen on that thread?

horizontal rule
4

I would offer my doorless extra room, but my roommate has already double-booked our extra-space. Plus: I'm afraid of Paypal. Can I send a pitifully small check somewhere?

horizontal rule
5

That's a question for John, who is probably getting one of those elderly person's cat naps.

horizontal rule
6

I would offer my doorless extra room

You crawl in through the window, or what?

horizontal rule
7

She's commented before (see the archives), but back when she was blogging. I wished I'd known about blogs back then.

horizontal rule
8

7 was to 3.

horizontal rule
9

Context for the doorless comment.

horizontal rule
10

The question stands.

horizontal rule
11

She just says, "no door." She doesn't say, "wall."

horizontal rule
12

Amazing, the human mind.

horizontal rule
13

That's no monkey, that's a tamarind.

horizontal rule
14

The summer dream beneath the tamarind tree?

(Not one of my best.)

horizontal rule
15

(Not one of my best.)

Edgar! How's your cousin Poon?! Is he still making barely-legal fuck flicks?

['Hadda ask.']

horizontal rule
16

Wolfson, I'd explain the room without a door, but since I am not in a position to offer hospitality to Emerson, I would find further elaboration to be impolite.

horizontal rule
17

Elaboration, natuerlich,

horizontal rule
18

Agree with JM in #4; not crazy about Paypal. If there's a drop box available, I will liberate the non-compliant tip jar from the closest Starbucks and forward the proceeds on to Emerson.

horizontal rule
19

Jackmormon -- I'm having trouble understanding your self-correction in 17. Is it that you spelled "elaboration" correctly in 16 and wanted to make sure we recognized? Or are you pointing out that had you been writing auf Deutsch, the word which translated as "Elaboration" would have been capitalized? Please clarify.

horizontal rule
20

"I'd like to make my donation contingent on a sincere effort on Emerson's part to seduce IA."

I'd like to remind you that John Emerson is my crazy uncle, which makes me his (at least potentially crazy) niece. We don't go in for that sort of thing here in the Big City.

horizontal rule
21

We don't go in for that sort of thing here in the Big City.

You are clearly going to the wrong bars.

horizontal rule
22

I'm not willing to take on any seduction obligations at this point. Maybe in my next life.

horizontal rule
23

And my niece-seduction experience have all been bad.

horizontal rule
24

The donations are entering the lowest-price ticket zone. Those tickets are highly restricted, but as soon as I find an intersection of the two curves I'll buy a ticket.

But someone has to tell me again when and where this event is, preferably also explaining what general area of NYC we're talking about.

As I understand, overnight housing not too nearby is available from annie, who's not going herself.

horizontal rule
25

Excellent.

The info is here, John. I'll leave it to a New Yorker to tell you which part of the city that's considered to be.

My understanding of overnight housing is the same as yours.

horizontal rule
26

John, add $20 on to the amount of donations in the hopper -- if I cannot between now and next week figure out how to give PayPal my money, I will hand it to you in person.

horizontal rule
27

And also, public transportation to the event is pretty easy from any of the 3 major airports nearby, LaGuardia, JFK/Idlewild, and Newark. Getting there from any of these three by train alone would take 60 to 90 minutes and cost about 5 dollars. For either of the first two you could do it substantially faster and a bit more expensively with a taxi. When you know where you are flying to let me know, and I'll give you more specific directions. Or if you're flying in earlier than right before the event, figure out where you want to spend the day -- there are several nice museums around -- and I'll give you directions to there from the airport and from there to the event.

horizontal rule
28

(Thinking about it, probably give preference to LaGuardia if the tickets exist, and secondarily to JFK/Idlewild.)

horizontal rule
29

That's no monkey, that's a tamarind.

That's no tamarind, that's my wife.

I can't kick in until Friday, when I get paid, but I'll do it then for sure.

horizontal rule
30

Niece-seduction experiences go here.

horizontal rule
31

Um, was that obscure? Link.

horizontal rule
32

I saw a cheap $200 ticket and I'm trying to buy it. Donations 3/4 cover it. I'm "pending" and am worried that my address change will screw up the credit card. There were time restrictions and I ended up coming into Kennedy 3:27 pm Sun 11 and leaving Kennedy Wed 14 12:31 pm (noon).

I'm checking in with a few other non-unfogged NYC blog friends, where I might stay one or more of the nights.

horizontal rule
33

Sounds good, John. Let me (us) know if you run into any complications.

horizontal rule
34

Sounds like you don't need airport-to-event directions then. The closest subway stop for Old Town is 14th St. on the N/R or the 4-5-6.

horizontal rule
35

Are the non-unfogged friends fogged?

horizontal rule
36

Jeremy, the places I want to see while I'm there are mostly bookstores: Labyrinth at 536 W 112th and Oriental Culture at 13-17 Elizabeth Street. (Gotham and Strand look easy to find.)

horizontal rule
37

Only if you accept Aristotelian logic.

horizontal rule
38

The ticket confirmation just came through so everything's cool.

horizontal rule
39

Labyrinth and Oriental culture are similarly easy to find. To get to Labyrinth, take the 1 to 110th St., get out, walk up Broadway to 113th, turn right. There it is. To get to Oriental Culture, take the N/R to Canal St., walk east on Canal a few blocks, turn right on Elizabeth, there it is. (The street address is 13, not 13-17. I think 17 is the suite number.)

horizontal rule
40

I just looked at the NYC weather reports, which is in the 30-40 Fahrenheit range. So I won't be wearing my ethnic costume.

horizontal rule
41

I should think "ethnic Minnesota" costumes would be pretty chill-resistant.

horizontal rule
42

Yeah, but 30-40 degrees is warm. No joke.

horizontal rule
43

Yeah I had that thought immediately after I posted 41. "Oh maybe I was not understanding him correctly."

horizontal rule
44

Cool site
