Re: As I was saying...

1

It looks like you need an invitation.

horizontal rule
2

Perhaps I should have looked more closely.

horizontal rule
3

This has to be the most content-free post ever.

horizontal rule
4

Not hardly.

horizontal rule
5

horizontal rule
6

Ugh is the hero!

horizontal rule
7

I think ugh is teh

horizontal rule
8

Wow, anyone got an invitation code to share with me or us?

horizontal rule
9

Why comment elsewhere? Why even link elsewhere? Every link I click here leads elsewhere . . . here. Who needs anything more?

Communists, that's who. And you know what we do with communists . . .

horizontal rule
10

I think I had to swear to foresake all other blogs before I was allowed to stick my comments in here.

horizontal rule
11

everyone is free to comment at my blog. of course, it's just a syndication of this.

horizontal rule
12

So I suppose no one knows what we do with communists here? It involves canned cherries and measuring cup. C'mon, people, don't disappoint me. . .

horizontal rule
13

Am I the only one who supports using the all-caps "UPDATE:" when new information is supplied on a blog post?

Am I also the only person who hates the word "blog"?

horizontal rule
14

I got an invitation code sent to me within a few hours of signing up on their notification list. Unfortunately I then discovered that it doesn't yet work with Movable Type or Powerblogs, so it's not much use to many of us yet.

Still, it's an early beta, so it might turn into a good thing eventually.

horizontal rule
15

Doesn't work with Movable Type? Even the comment tracking function?

horizontal rule
16

Stanley, everyone else loves the word "blog," you're just a freak.

horizontal rule
17

Doesn't work with Movable Type? Even the comment tracking function?

Seems that way, although it claims to work on typepad hosted blogs, so I'm not sure why.

I just tired it with this comment, and I got a "this blog is not supported yet" message.

Even on supported blogs, it seems like the comment tracking function only lets you know of replies to your post that are posted by other coComment members. I suppose it could be useful just to keep track of where you had posted, though.

horizontal rule
18

I use '...'.

horizontal rule
19

10 -- very nicely done. I was trying to figure out how to make the connection between this post and the previous one but was not up to it.

18 -- You mean, in place of "blog"? Or is that just a general statement?

horizontal rule
20

"the previous one" s/b "Tia's post yesterday".

horizontal rule
21

In place of UPDATE.

Like Atrios.

horizontal rule
22

Ah. That makes more sense, thanks.

horizontal rule
23

Ogged-style (pour a little on the floor) would be:

Hmm: It's in beta...
horizontal rule
24

Stanley 13, I hate the word "blog" too. It seems cutesily false-modest.

By contrast, I find the title / author combination The Bog People, by P.V. Glob" to be quite delightful -- really a masterful use of the same kinds of phonemes.

horizontal rule
25

I like 'blog'. Try saying it aloud a couple of times.

horizontal rule
26

I like 'blog'. Try saying it aloud a couple of times.

Didn't Monty Python have a sketch where they do this?...

horizontal rule
27

Shut up!! Syndicated columnists are off.

horizontal rule
28

"In memory of Ogged". Well, fair enough.

horizontal rule
29

25 - Stanley would like to say "blog" several times aloud in order to test your hypothesis; however, Stanley works at a crowded contact center and wishes not to draw attention to the activities going on in Stanley's cubicle.

As an aside, is there a Spanish-language equivalent to "blog"?

horizontal rule
30

I dunno. It's blogue in French (but blog is more usual, I think.) blogg in German and Swedish.

horizontal rule
31

Oh ,yeah.

horizontal rule
32

Also: Incidentally, the Spanish have their own word for blog. It is bitícora. I suspect, however, that—much like the triumph of marketing over mercadotecnia—blog will soon snuff-out bitícora in the Spanish lexicon for reasons of expediency. Although I admit that my logic is shaky on this point, since expediency isn't necessarily a high-priority in Spanish culture—particularly when urgent plumbing repairs are needed.

horizontal rule
33

My Spanish boyfriend said "un blog" in 2003.

horizontal rule
34

30 -- surely it's bløg in Norwegian? Or at least in Heavy-Metal-album-coverese?

horizontal rule
35

I studied in South America back in the college years.

While there, I had an internship with Amnesty International, and I tried to convince them to start a blog about human rights. They thought I was gringo nutso.

For this reason (among others) I now deem Human Wrights Watch as the superior defender of the masses.

horizontal rule
36

Tia, he only said it that one time?

horizontal rule
37

Hey! I just got emailed a CoComment invite code! I'll see if I get any to spread around.

horizontal rule
38

[looks in inbox] -- Oh -- me too! Apparently if you sign up for notification, they will give you an invitation.

horizontal rule
39

The invites aren't gmail style - you can't spread them around. But if you sign up on their web page, you might just get one in a day or so like JO and me.

In Brussels, the EU Ministry of Technologie reacted with alarm to this proliferation of 'blog' terms unique to each country, especially after they learned that the Poles intended to call them "gzybrgrlz". The EU has consequently appointed a commission to draft a plan to hold a meeting to prepare an agenda. Officials are hopeful that a single, Europe-wide standard term can be introduced in time for the 2104 Olympics.

From David W.'s link.

horizontal rule
41

"gzybrgrlz"

Is it my imagination, or is the Polish word for "blog" cognate with "cybergirls"?

horizontal rule
42

I think that part of the post was not technically, how you say, 'true'.

horizontal rule
43

O faithless, faithless internets!
