I heard bits of Värttinä's Miero on NPR this morning and really liked it. Ben must have done the same, because he immediately traveled back through time to play it on his show. I hereby tout Miero.
The music playing under what was quoted in 7 sounded a lot like Balkan music to me. And then the person being interviewed mentioned Bulgaria, which is teh Balkan.
What do you think of the music, though? That snippet of "Mataleena" (about 10 minutes into the program) hooked me. I'm a sucker for odd meters and tight vocal harmony. You know, Wilson Phillips' signature sound.
I was wondering, also, if you love the Balkans so much, why you don't marry them.
Shouldn't that be a link to your new profile?

To my shame, today is a day that I came in to work early, and so I have not done any listening at all. I am such an ingrate!

The part playing just under that sounded very Balkan. And there's the interviewee mentioning Bulgarian music. Well then.

I don't really get what you're saying, Matt, but it sounds beguiling, like mysterious incantations from an ancient tribe.

I don't know. Albania is pretty Balkan.
