This makes me so ill. Notwithstanding my hatred of the Bush administration, torture happens in this country, in state and federal prisons. It happens in countless other countries. We're doing it at home, abroad, wherever we can, and so is everyone else.
The notion that we have the right and duty and privilege of imprisoning people and treating them however we wish has turned out to be a fucking scourge on humanity.
So this is what it's like to feel murderously shrill, I'd forgotten. Aaaiii! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Krugman R'lyeh wagn'nagl fhtagn! Aaaiii! AAAAAAIIIIIIIII!!!!
I wouldn't fuck this gagortion of an Administration with Bea Arthur's dick. I seceded a long time ago along with the rest of the People's Republic of Austin.
And what do we do with the knowledge that those likely to be moved already have been, and that it wasn't worth raising as an issue in the last election?
I took a summer sailing class back in junior high and when one of the instructors, warning us not to be careless when we were joking around, said, "It's only funny until someone gets hurt", the second instructor immediately responded: "Yeah. Then it's hilarious."
1: I think that these are terrible crimes, and the fact that some abused their positions of authority to effect the crimes compounds the problem, but I don't view them as meriting any more shame than the horrors, often far worse than those at Abu Ghraib, that citizens here inflict upon each other on a regular basis. Nor do I view them as surprising, or new. Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I find it difficult to believe that similar abuses were not perpetrated upon captured Japanese soldiers in WW2, or captured Korean soldiers during the Korean War. And Vietnam...
As noted here (with a couple of attached quotations), a page with attached video link that runs through every picture in less than a minute and a half. Pause as desired, if desired.
Further words beyond what I said in my post, have not I at this time.
Not sure if it's the same as the video link Gary posted, but yesterday BoingBoing had a link to a torrent of an Australian newscast containing the images.
I feel sickened and ashamed (all over again) that my country was responsible for this.

Hey, I don't know if I've said this lately, but motherfucking fuck George Bush and pretty much everyone in his administration.

Here's a non-popup page with many more. A lot of them are very bloody.

Let this serve as a reminder that some people would be happy, even joyoua to be wiretapped! So keep that in mind!
In some good news, I was just reading this NYT article, which is finally sticking it to Frist for legislative shenanigans.

I just hate feeling sick and ashamed when I read the news. Isn't there some way to make it stop?

I hear there are good deals available on eye removal.

10: You could restrict your newsreading to here. Of course, they haven't printed a new story since September 2003, but these are dark times.

Unlike giant pharmaceutical co's, SmartScience Laboratories believes the prescription for staying healthy doesn't have to come from a doctor

Well, we all know that fun turns to tragedy when somebody loses an eye.

Except that, AFAIK, no one in the government wrote a memo justifying it as legal.

More pictures are up at Salon - I've got the link in an update. I haven't been able to make myself look at all of them.

"...More pictures are up at Salon....
As I noted in 20, all the pictures that the Australians obtained and released (as I understand it) are at the Reuters link I gave.
Of course, as I noted, the WaPo says they have all those hundreds more they think that it's unnecessary for us to see.
