Hey, did you hear the news about Belle & Sebastian? It seems Sebastian has decided to leave the band and they're thinking of replacing him with Sammy Hagar!
There's no one named either "Belle" or "Sebastian" in the band, M/lls; they're named after a series of French children's (books? shows? something like that).
There's no "John and Belle" either. A succession of low-paid BAs (sometimes Wonkette rejects) pretend to to be a couple living in Singapore raising a kid, while writing a succession of humungous essays.
First, let me start off by saying that Standpipe is unequivocally the hero.
Now:
There's no one named either "Belle" or "Sebastian" in the band, M/lls; they're named after a series of French children's (books? shows? something like that).
Wolfson, if you were really knowledgable about music instead of just a poseur, you'd know that there actually are band members named "Belle" and "Sebastian", but they started that elabeorate hoax about the French children's books because they shun the spotlight. The people you see playing B&S's music live are actually just a hired tribute band.
However, those rumours about Belle dying in a car crash and being replaced by a look-a-like are completely untrue, despite the clear references to such event heard when playing "Electronic Renaissance" backwards.
That's not the air studio cam, it's for when there are bands in the part of the studio set up to accomodate, well, bands. So even if it were on, there'd be nothing to see.
Points are awarded for Richard Pinhas, whom I discovered in 1980 when I heard Iceland and Stand By on the radio and said, Keanu-like, "whoa." Recent material is less compelling though.
I have lots of raccoons. Too many to enumerate. I suppose I shouldn't begrudge a little thievery by the hapless raccoon-deprived rabble, but it's been my experience that those people don't know much about how to treat a raccoon.
Off topic, but last night I watched this documentary and recommend it. Lots of inspiring young bravery on display. It made me think of Weiner because it takes place in Lubbock. Man I'd forgotten how excruciatingly f#*king flat that town is. You could put an egg in the middle of the road and it would dominate the horizon for miles around.
I got it via Ironweed, which I personally recommend and which I think a large portion of the Unfoggedtariat might be interested in.
Yglesias has been spectaacukar as the tpm temp. Clearly better than Marshall or what Marshall's doing or what he does on his own blog. Maybe because he's something to prove?
I disagree with MY lots, but the amount he can write, and write well, is amazing. He seems to be able to find a topic, figure out what he thinks about it, and write 300 or so words about it in about 30 minutes. And it's always well done and always has a definite point. So he's able to keep 3 blogs going while also writing ocasionally for the Prospect itself.

And it wasn't Sammy Hagar, either. The remaining member of B&S, looking for a flutier sound, is in talks with Jethro Tull.

I am obsessed with banjo, but I can't listen because as far as I can tell, this computer does not even have a fucking sound card.

Because that Jethro Tull guy rules.

a song by Hans Eisler sung by Dagmar Krause
Off that Krause sings Eisler record? God, I want that, but I haven't been willing to spend the 40+ bucks it usually goes for on Ebay.
(Btw, it's "Hanns.")

Yeah, Tank Battles. Next track! Thanks for the spelling tip.

I like the cover of "Heard It on the Grapevine" by the Slits, too.

Thanks for the spelling tip.
De nada. It might be the only chance I get.

There's evidence that they're paid by the word.

Question: are "John and Belle" twee? Defend your answer.
Posted by bitchphd | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 2:30 PM
This Arthur Jarvinen isn't twee.
Posted by Matt Weiner | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 2:31 PM
And I now notice that I'm not playing anything by l'Ensemble Rayé but rather by Louise Avenue.

This isn't twee. It's kind of disturbing. I feel that there has been some false advertising.
Posted by bitchphd | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:02 PM
My hands are just itching to hold that hammer again.
There will be at least (and possibly at most) two twee tracks, one already played.
Posted by ben wolfson | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:06 PM
Well, excuse me for having a stupid job.
The station i.d. was fairly twee.
Posted by bitchphd | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:08 PM
The imaginary little kid is twee at times.
The J&B writers are required to maintain and follow a continuity book, but you'll see errors here and there, just like in Superman comix.
The authors typically have BAs from the lesser schools in the Bangalore area. The original plan of hiring Bard dropouts fell through.

Btw, John, I'm really glad you're back. I'm sorry I missed you last time I was in Twin Cities again, though. Later this summer, maybe?
Posted by bitchphd | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:11 PM
Yeah, welcome back, Emerson. I put up a post for you in your absence.
Posted by ben wolfson | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:14 PM
Dude, there's a studio cam. But it's off.
Lame.
Posted by bitchphd | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:14 PM
Good, now that we have Emerson and M/lls in the same thread maybe we can resolve the raccoon custody issue.

Posted by Becks | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:49 PM
Since the guy who did this slot the first half of the quarter signed me up that way.
Posted by ben wolfson | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 3:50 PM
Emerson is unfit. The raccoon is mine.
Posted by M/tch M/lls | Link to this comment | 05-26-06 4:26 PM
I don't know nothing about no raccoon, but I concede nothing on the question of ownership. It's probably mine.

"spectaacukar" is pretty, well, spectacular.
But MY still just completely pwns anyone when it comes to misspelling. See, for example, this post.

"Flumming" is a Swedishism, but David probably doesn't flumm a lot.
