Re: Save The Date

1

Who will be the first to suggest "in my pants" as a location?

horizontal rule
2

In FL's pants.

horizontal rule
3

YOU BET YOUR ASS, w/d. There is room for all.

horizontal rule
4

Really? That means I must have broken my New Half-Year's resolution not to gamble after I've been drinking. Oh boy, it looks like it's suicide again for me.

horizontal rule
5

FL apparently wears Dockers -- the pants with a skosh more room.

I thought Old Town was pleasant last time, but I haven't got a strong opinion.

horizontal rule
6

FL apparently wears Dockers

Or clown pants.

horizontal rule
7

I certainly hope it's been noticed that Ben Wolfson has posted videos of himself peeling and eating a banana.

horizontal rule
8

That is, here.

horizontal rule
9

Given recent experience, I would suggest a beer garden, though maybe others didn't enjoy that type of atmosphere as much as I did. Given people's locations, I would suggest midtown.
Given that there is no beer garden in midtown, I would suggest we track one down, maybe in Brooklyn, maybe in downtown manhattan

horizontal rule
10

Nothing's going to call itself a beer-garden, but there are certainly places with outside tables.

horizontal rule
11

A downtown location would be highly preferable.

horizontal rule
12

I'm all for outdoor tables.

horizontal rule
13

That shit's bananas!

I'll aim for NYC on the fourth.

horizontal rule
14

Nothing except the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden:

horizontal rule
15

Astoria's right out.

horizontal rule
16

No one's said anything about time yet. I'm probably going to be staying in Jersey City and the last ferry's at 10, so early evening (7, say) would be best. That's also why I prefer downtown for location.

horizontal rule
17

That was where the last meetup/blog party was, and it was great, but difficult to get to. The blackout in Queens didn't help.

I vaguely remember Zum Schneider being bruited for a previous meetup -- I've been there and it has tables out front. And it sounds like a beer garden.

horizontal rule
18

There's someplace on Stone Street, way downtown, with outdoor tables. It's kind of an obnoxious financial industry types mob scene, but it is outdoors. I can't remember the name - Ulysses? Finnegans Wake? Something else with nothing to do with James Joyce?

horizontal rule
19

A bit less convenient, but also downtown are places in Battery Park City. There are several that have tables out in the summer. It's not as convenient to the subway, but you have a nice view of the river and scenic New Jersey.

horizontal rule
20

Way downtown sounds good. Why is outside tables such an important criterion?

horizontal rule
21

Because we just sat outdoors Wednesday night and it was fun.

horizontal rule
22

It is Ulysses I was thinking of.

horizontal rule
23

If you miss the last ferry to Jersey City, there's always the PATH train.

horizontal rule
24

I'll try to think of some non-lame places downtown. Where is the ferry to Jersey you'd be taking? The one at the World Financial Center?

horizontal rule
25

The PATH doesn't seem to go very close to where I'll be.

horizontal rule
26

Pier 11.

horizontal rule
27

(Not implying that any of the places suggested so far are lame. Just that most places that come to mind in the BPC/WFC area are lame or way overpriced.)

horizontal rule
28

Picnic in Central Park!

horizontal rule
29

It looks like I could connect from the PATH to the local light rail, though. That might work.

horizontal rule
30

Tia mentioned some LES German beer-hall-type place a while back that she said was very fun (excepting the wild World Cup crowd) called Loreley. It looks pretty great.

horizontal rule
31

It does indeed.

horizontal rule
32

Looks good to me.

horizontal rule
33

Anyone who is familiar with Jersey City: Would it be practical to take the PATH in and then connect to the Hudson-Bergen light rail late on a Friday night?

horizontal rule
34

My review was in fact more mixed. Most to the point, it really was pretty expensive. I don't know if that's a concern. I'm a bad person to ask about meetup spots, but I can ask some people who aren't.

horizontal rule
35

Ah. I just assume if anyone other than me mentions a bar, it must at least be better than the places I frequent.

horizontal rule
36

Expensive is not good.

horizontal rule
37

If Teo's ferry is from Pier 11, one option is meeting at the South Street Seaport. We've have some good happy hours for work at Cabana. They have indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the river and beers are about $4-5 and mixed drinks/sangria/mojitos are about $5-7. I don't know if people think the Seaport is too out of the way but it's not that far from the Fulton Street 2/3/4/5 and Broadway-Nassau A/C.

horizontal rule
38

Where exactly in Jersey are you looking to go? If you can give us the exact city (or if you don't want to announce it online for some reason, you can email it), I can get my Jersey guru to hook you up with your transport options.

horizontal rule
39

I strongly suggest not Ulysses on the grounds of any and all people from my office might be there at any time.

horizontal rule
40

any and all people from my office might be there at any time.

Gee, lax work hours.

horizontal rule
41

Port Liberté.

horizontal rule
42

41 to 38.

horizontal rule
43

I sent my NJ Commute Guru an email. I'll let you know what he has to say.

horizontal rule
44

Thanks, Becks.

horizontal rule
45

You can just e-mail me when you get a reply.

horizontal rule
46

Any progress on time and place for this meetup?

horizontal rule
47

I keep posting comments asking just that, but no one seems to notice.

horizontal rule
48

I think I should do a post.

horizontal rule
49

Suggestions welcome here.
