Also, if you like, we can swap some clothes: I've got a bunch of really nice work clothes (silk slacks, that sort of thing) in a 10 that don't fit me b/c my goddamn kid literally sucked a bunch of weight off me and I haven't gotten it back. I'll gladly swap it for a collection of vintage dresses.
Reads Greek & Latin? Makes me toes curl. You have no idea.
I have been spendin 15% of my time eating chocolate lately. Gonna have to go Atkins again. Up 40, down 40 2-3 times a year gonna kill me, but it is kinda fun.
You know what, I kind of like the way the skinny-leg jeans look on some people. However, the chance of me wearing them or ever attempting to wear them is 0.00001.
There was a really hot Swedish chick staying in my room in the hostel in Berlin who looked totally awesome in the skinny-legs. And she wasn't even really that skinny. It takes a certain look.
Skinny leg jeans look good on people with no hips - like that Levis ad girl (who looks fantastic in them, disregarding the fact that she's thinner than my 9 year old). Everyone else just looks weird.
TD, Your victory is not the point. Let go of your phallocentric teleologies, and let the Earth Mother embrace you.... dig your toes down into the dirt and feel your oneness with all things....
Like the anti-slavery movement, however, the anti-relationship movement can expect only scornful rejection, abuse, and occasional persecution from the vast majority of mankind, who prefer to wallow in miserable delusion..
Is this an open-thread? Cause I have a looks-related question for any Bostonian members of the unfoggedtariat. Does anyone know where I can get a good, inexpensive haircut? Lurkers, please pipe up.
Judy Jetson on Mass ave in Cambridge is ~$40 (I think) for a women's cut and is super-stylish. Maybe that counts as inexpensive for a woman's hair cut (?). For guys, La Flamme (in Harvard Square) is one great answer. There's also an superb tiny Italian place on Hanover in the North end, but they would have a seizure if a woman walked in.
Also, if random comments there must be, Ned's link ultimately leads to the American Conservative's "What is Left, What is Right" symposium, in which Ross Douthat's contribution is superb.
$40 is on the low end of moderate nowadays. Cheap would be $30. $40 isn't bad. I was thinking of women's cuts. I'd be glad to be a guinea pig for a trainee if the salon was a good enough one, because then the trainee is being supervised by somebody pretty good.
The Italian place on Hanover Street sounds liek an awesome place to send a man though. I lament the decline of the barber shop in favor of teh Unisex salon.
When I was in college, the people who ran LaFlamme were kind of nuts.
I used to go to Judy Jetson, a long time ago. They were great. I get my hair cut downtown now, and pay in the mid-moderate range. But I have thrifty friends who get their hair cut at a friend of a friend's house and it looks pretty good. (she's all trained and everything, and used to work on newbury street or similar, but likes being at home), email if you want the name and number, and I'll ask tomorrow.
I get my hair cut for $11 by a gay french-vietnamese who is completely indifferent to tips, sometimes watches DVDs while he cuts hair, and has an obsession with trying to talk guys into getting faux-hawks. Most of my friends go to the same guy. I know only one person who's taken up the stylist's faux-hawk suggestion. The poor, naive fool. Unfortunatly, my stylist isn't in Boston, or I would recommend him to you.
There's a combination salon/sake bar opening down the street from me soon. I don't know how much they plan to charge, but I kind of want to get a haircut there.
My hairstylist and I routinely point to the coloring she's about to put in my hair and exclaim "Science!" and talk about how we want to be ninjas. Last time I was in she was like "hey, me and my Ninja Knitting group are making buttons tonight. What should I make?" And I told her that she should find a picture of a panda in a ninja outfit, and she was like, "Yeah, ok, cool."
But sake+haircut sounds like it might be better than my ninja hairstylist.
I just go to free wine tastings before I get my haircut, and then listen to my barber talk to another barber in Russian, trying to understand what they're saying based on barely remembered high school Russian.
Alameida, I totally love you.
No. No need to thank me. Really.

Unless you're joking, in which case, I'll see myself out.

I've seen THREE girls today wearing stupid skinny jeans that look like denim leggings. Of all the trends that should have died.

4 - I wasn't kidding, no. But, I wasn't basing it (all) by just what she said she looks like, if that's what you think.

Comity is the misbegotten spawn of Hannity and Colmes.

Straight and skinny.
