And an anonymous White House official tells Politico "We have been saying all along that the most important part of this debate is not the public option, but rather ensuring choice and competition insurance company profits."

As far as I can tell eight months in, Obama may as well be Joe Lieberman. And McManus appears to have been 100% correct that Baucus is doing exactly what Obama wants him to do.

It's an ok song. Too much bottom, too much compression, are there any guitars or keyboards at all, a little too fast, a little too simple.

But I wouldn't change channels. Sounds close enough that they could do some real soul if they wanted too.

What Can I Say I'm just hopeless, every indie emo cliche made flesh.

The pressures on the House. Well the Blue Dogs are vulnerable, but unfortunately they are vulnerable to Republicans. The progressives are pretty safe, but fucking Rahm and Obama can run a moderate for their seat in 2010. The Senate is a Black Box.

The leaks aren't even for us, but directed at each other. Obama will deliver platitudes and homilies, and waterboard behind closed doors. Baucus may have bolted. Anybody who thinks they know what is going on is wrong.

48: No, I'm not surprised, either. I'm old enough to have seen this movie, and many like it, long before. That's why we made the bumper stickers during the primaries. Nevertheless, I'm sad. So much passion, so many possibilities for engaging a younger generation in politics and public service, in danger of being squandered. Still, it's early. There's time yet, I suppose, but Afghanistan is making me increasingly edgy.

It seems odd that 100% of the people with power in a political party want to demoralize their supporters. But I guess they have a feeling like this is their chance to tip the balance of bribery money in their favor, which will then let them outspend the other party on advertising.

I know I shouldn't get more political in this thread , so just a link to Ezra Klein, who at least acts like he understands what is going on with health care more than most commentary I have read today. At least the White House part of the game.

I have no further comment, except to say that Obama should remember he is the most powerful badasss mutha in the world, has at least ten aircraft carrier groups at his disposal, amd Olympia Snowe's state has a coastline. Just sayin'

The Klein piece is concerning. I'm to the right of many people here on this issue in that I don't think the public option is really the core piece of the bill, getting the insurance regulation and the exchanges would be a much bigger accomplishment. But pulling back from universal coverage could seriously endanger the insurance regulation part, which I think is key. Something significantly less generous than the Senate HELP bill is really a problem. If at the end of the day we're just looking at a Medicaid expansion then that would suck.

I should read less comment sections that get me frustrated and overexcited.

I have come to deeply regret hinting that I would accept the carpet bombing of the State of Maine in order to get a decent health care bill. Obama should take no such actions.

These kind of intemperate comments is why I don't get frontpaged more often.

Thanks, nice and scrubby ( and it's Mentone, but you knew that). I thought of it when the highest points in states came up the other day. Guadalupe Peak is not too far away and is one of the state high points almost right on a state border. One of the few I've been at the top of, I hiked up it after a relatively rare snowfall the day after I had been in Mentone. The trail is a bit spooky in that it goes past the wreckage from a 1940s plane crash.

UPDATE: My family saga gets even crazier.

My uncle's dogs seem to be in the house, and somebody is getting mail, but the doors were all locked up as though nobody was there.

My other cousin writes:

One reason B decided not to preside over the wedding was that M made him uneasy and she had lied directly to him. M said she met Dad skiing in Colorado about 10 years ago. Dad had told B he had met her over the phone and B didn't believe that Dad was in any shape to ski 10 years ago in any case. B did not confront her over the lie, and let it go.
B doesn't know how long Dad and M had been in contact. He thinks they met over the phone, 800 number perhaps from TV, but didn't know the details. He said from the strength of her voice he guessed her age to be in her 30s.

The dog groomer's report. (They had wanted one of the dogs to board since it wouldn't be able to stay with them in a smaller place but cancelled, since the smaller dog was freaking out at the separation):

DG saw Dad and M together. She said Dad seemed happy. She described M as about 40, attractive, well dressed, and nice, but volunteered that she got a strange feeling from M nonetheless.

The only big thing to worry about right now is his credit card bill. It seems that most of his other bills are currently being handled by a law firm's private client group, so they should (thought they can at times be really dumb) notice something super strange. What they could do, I don't know.

I guess that the lawyer was planning to call the Chelsea police to have them do a Wellness check or something.
