HP's a little young for it, I suppose, but Ralph's World is some super-fun kids' music.
Devotchka on Saturday. Flogging Molly is also an excellent live band (this observation is based on viewing one show only).
Are they upbeat and lively? Those are my favorite kinds of acts to see when I don't know the band, ie nearly all the acts at ACL.
Flogging Molly is indeed a great live show. Very upbeat and lively. (I didn't post 2, but I've also seen them live. Which might surprise some people, but that's the way it is.)
I'm totes jealous. If I were going, I'd see:
Saturday
The Dexateens
The Raveonettes
Grizzly Bear
...And You Will Know Us by Our Really Long Name
Mos Def
Devotchka (although if you've never seen the Decemberists, and if they're doing the same Hazards of Love show they just did here, it's definitely worth it, if only to see Shara Worden who's incredible with them {but I kinda hate her solo stuff})
Sunday
Sons of Bill (because they're from here, more or less, and a "friend band" of one of my bands—though I don't know them as personally as the bandmate who used to take lessons from their lead gitterist)
Girl Talk
|| The baggage handler who stole my laptop has pleaded out, and the laptop has been returned to me after six months in his home and a few more in police custody. Is it appropriate for me to use the itunes selections he left behind? (is there any risk they could damage my ipod?)
Related: Should I do something with his family pictures? They're better looking and better dressed than my family. The screensaver photo has an attractive middle-aged husband (the thief? hHis dad?) and wife looking very sharp dressed for a formal wedding. The little girl in the christening outfit is adorable.
Also, if anyone wants some links for places to play online dominos, or look up movie times in San Juan, I've got 'em. ||
6 is awesome. (If you're worried about the tunes, you can burn, delete and re-rip, but I can't imagine they're a problem.) How was he caught?
Also, Bay Area pride demands that I recommend you go see John Vanderslice.
5: The Raveonettes are still alive?
7: I had lojack software (company computer). Even though it was traced to his house in a few days, and he was a baggage handler for an ariline my luggage had flown, it took months to get a warrant issued. Didn't bother me because it was the corporate laptop. I didn't get many details, but a policeman told me he had stuff from other people's baggage in his home also.
To answer the obvious question, unfogged is not in his browser history.
11: What about the log-in info to his Facebook account?
11: good idea! he had facebook and twitter in his browser history. I havent' gone online on the computer yet since I'm still in the office, but will try that this weekend.
Going home now. May rejoin the discussion late tonight.

What about d/scr/m/nat/ngmorals.blogspot.com?
per Devotchka and Flogging Molly, they are both lively bands. Decemberists are hit and miss.
5: although if you've never seen the Decemberists, and if they're doing the same Hazards of Love show they just did here, it's definitely worth it
According to the band's website they are doing HoL (and it is being webcast for those playing along at home). And I strongly second the recommendation; the show really captivated me, and both of the women singers complemented the lineup very well.
Should I do something with his family pictures?
Don't worry, they're probably not his.
Apropos of the original post, earlier tonight M/tch & I went to a "we don't have tickets to ACL" party in the neighborhood. We're not bitter.
(Actually, we're not. Have fun, HeebieFamily!)
The live-pstream feed did not work. It told me taht the clip was null. This makes me sad.
Arrgh, "the live-stream video on the festival's website".
unimaginative, did you ever look at unfogged on your corporate laptop?
And, why would a laptop be in checked luggage anyway?
And, why would a laptop be in checked luggage anyway?
Why not? That is, I guess I wouldn't check one now that I've heard this story, but I'd have packed my laptop in among my clothes for a short flight, just to get away from the thing for a while, and because carry-ons are a pain.
||
And BTW, airlines, it's annoying that it takes five times as long to get on or off a plane now because all the people who would have checked their bags a year ago are saving ten dollars by carrying them on and then wrestling their giant wheelie bags in and out of the overhead bins. I hope the delays are cancelling out whatever you're making on luggage fees.

22: We have that fee only because our passengers piss us off.
19,20: Little early in the morning for it, no?
24: If I had to get up at an ungodly hour because someone had to go to the airport, then so should everyone else.
Plus, they could just have a feed of the park. There used to be a video of a coffee maker at Cambridge University. It was live, 24 hours a day.
22: I guess that I wouldn't trust them not to break it.
24-hour live-feed cameras have late-90s feel for me. "Look at this plaza in Madrid/London/Bumfuck! LOOK!!!!"
26, 28: I think the CMU Internet Coke Machine (1982 and no pics, you could only"finger" it for status) was the first "netlegend" I ever heard about.
28: Yeah, the coffee machine went offline in August 2001, but for better or worse I think they were a key part of establishing the Wow! reputation of the 'net among the non-tech population during that time.
30: I never actually saw that coffee pot, but my tutors, one of whom was English, discussed it in late 94.
10: Yep. Also still Danish. Two of the Ronettes, of whom perhaps you were thinking, are alive as well. Ronnie Spector appeared on The Raveonettes 2005 album.
I'd also recommend Bon Iver. He's neither upbeat nor lively, but his music is hauntingly beautiful, especially live. I suspect, though, that Heebie and I have somewhat different taste in music.
Oooh! Go see the Heartless Bastards on Sunday. Good, good stuff.
I'd also recommend Bon Iver.
Yeah, seconded.
Just be sure that Hawaii is kept away from really loud speakers - not only will she cry, but it will do bad things to her teeny eardrums. I had to bug out of a rock concert when the Offspring was three because I figured if the damned over-amped performance hurt my ears, think of what it must be doing to his. His paediatrician agreed that I'd had the right idea.
Biohazard, OTOH, after a life time of riding motorcycles, shooting rifles and listening to Bach at 120dB, cannot hear out of his right ear, which makes our conversations somewhat Felliniesque. [I may have listened to loud music as a lass, but I did not ride a motorcycle and only shot handguns. I can, therefore, hear.]
I think I may crap out on the last day of the festival, after yesterday's downpour and today's predicted to be the same.
I do like Bon Iver.
I'm paranoid about stuff being too loud for her ears, so we sat way back from the music and had baby noise-cancelling headphones, just in case.
My hips are sore from trudging all over the place in sogging wet denim.
The new plan is that we're going again. Because we're troopers. But we're going to plan on not getting there before 3:00.
You are troopers! I watched part of the Flogging Molly show from work and it looked great, but very soggy. Denim seems a sad material for such conditions. Maybe wear your lycra body suit today.
I do like Bon Iver.
All is well then. Please provide show reviews when you get a chance.

Sogging Molly?
They have baby noise-cancelling earphones!! My poor Offspring missed out on so much, what with being born so long ago. I cannot wait to see what there will be in another decade or so; he intends to acquire a couple of children about then. Baby's Own Anti
-Grav Bassinet?
I am sympathetic to parents at festivals (having been one myself) but some people go over the top - the woman with her kid (wearing ear defenders) on a step ladder had definitely overstepped my personal line of ridiculousness.

"Andr/w Gross left his facebook account logged in on a display computer at the Apple Store, and also he confesses to inappropriate feelings for Fozzie from the Muppets."
|>
Okay, but who among us hasn't harbored inappropriate feelings for Fozzie?
Follow up on a long-forgotten query. I'm not messing around in the facebook account on the stolen and returned computer, and also not going to post or photoshop the rather banal family photos. The itunes selections suggest the computer had more than one user (middle aged Spanish, and teenager who prefers Englsih, neither close to my own tastes), most likely of different generations in one family, and only one of them is a thief. The others, who might possibly still be accessing facebook, are coping with the loss of a father or son to prison. The legal system worked, and after that it's none of my business.
Also, I'm not going pack my laptop in checked baggage ever again. It was locked and concealed, but of course wsomeone had to xray it, and luggage locks aren't terribly effective.
