Sandra Lee cakes have made Hawaiian Punch powerful!
That's the most adorable thing on the internet, no joke.
I'm saddened that I can't watch this from my current location, but I feel the urge (1) to wish both HP and heebie a happy day and (2) to highlight that 419 is a prime number, which has probably not escaped heebie's notice.
Her excited butt wiggle knocks her down. If you ever want her to stand for long periods you'll have to make it a dreary chore.
The best part is the little farting noises she makes towards the end. Pffffft! Yaaaay!
Happy Birthday Punchy!
m, take THAT, militia members
to highlight that 419 is a prime number, which has probably not escaped heebie's notice.
Is this supposed to have cosmic significance of some sort? I've never heard of it before. One of my kids is prime and the other isn't.
9: No cosmic significance whatsoever. I just think prime numbers are kinda neat and figured heebie would, too.
I've always wished my birthday were a neat number. Baby Schadenfreude's is 3/2/10, which delights me.
10: clearly, the wrong answer. Everyone likes prime numbers, and lots of people already seem to think they've got some sort of weird cosmic significance all by themselves. So you should obviously make up some cosmic significance supposedly tied to prime number birthdays, put it in a book, profit.
Be sure to attribute it to an ancient culture, though. (It doesn't really matter which one.) No one will believe it if it's just coming from Stanley the Drummer.
The ancient Egyptians believed that baby boys born on days that are prime number would grow up to be unusually well endowed. (This despite their not having a Roman calendar system, nor a modern conception of "prime numbers".)
What 2 said. Do I dare let my wife watch this video? I swear she's going to secretly take out her IUD if she gets this kind of a reminder of her love of babies.
"The ancient Ephesians discerned that progeny progenified on dates prime received some wicked sweet benefits, but nobody speaks Ephesian anymore, so we've hired Dan Brown to gesticulate wildly at the outer edges of what maybe they were on about."
This despite their not having a Roman calendar system
I though Sausage-Knees, who invented the Julian calendar, was an Egyptian. He earned the right to make up any damn associated myths he wanted.
I was thinking more ancient than that. But you're right--it's possible all this originated with Sausage-Knees.
Oh, man, she is adorable. The glee! The wiggling! The willingness to pull herself up again and again!
Oh my God that child is adorable. Can't believe it's been a whole year. Congrats HP! Yaaaaay!
Happy birthday HP, by the way. I can't watch the video at the moment, don't take it down yet.
This video really is absurdly adorable. You should put a warning on it so people don't accidentally overdose.
Happy birthday, Hawaiian Punch, and congratulations to her parents.
Inspired by HP's cuteness, I thought I'd share this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmnZbF5EN2A
No. Haven't gone anywhere yet, in fact, but tomorrow I'll be spending the whole day on trains to get to France. But I hope you find someone who can use those tickets, because the concert sounds awesome.
Totes adorable. The parents of Unfogged are obviously conspiring to make the rest of us want to reproduce.
Oh, adorable!!!! Happy birthday to her!

The place at where I am has a "coffee condiments" sign designating the sugar and milk* area. Though those seem to fall under the actual definition of "condiments," this troubles me.
*Technically, the white sugar/Sugar in the Raw/Splenda/Sweet-n-Low/Equal and skim milk/half-n-half/soy milk area.

(Wait, is emdash sharing videos of other commenters' children? Or was there a change of handle that I missed?)
(Confidential to 36: you missed it.)
I don't like it when people change their handles. It turns my world topsy turvy. I'm trying to adjust, though.
s/b (Confidential to 35).
I talk to myself all the time, but I generally don't feel the need to keep it on the QT.
But back to the main point: HP is totally adorable!!
I talk to myself all the time, but I generally don't feel the need to keep it on the QT.
I was riding in the car recently with a friend, when I wondered aloud, "How often do you think semi-trucks are driving around empty? At least some of the time for sure, right?" To which she responded, "Do you say these things out loud when you're alone, or do you just think them?" I fessed up: it's often aloud, even when flying solo.
"How often do you think semi-trucks are driving around empty? At least some of the time for sure, right?"
At least some of the time, sure, but less than you might think. The big companies are pretty sophisticated with the logistics.
OT:
I know I'm late to the bandwagon, but these kale chips are awesome. If you like cabbagey stuff at all, they're ethereally light and crispy. We just ate the ones I made, but now I want to figure out how to use them as crunchy, delicate garnish on stuff. Maybe float them on soup?
I don't know how long they'd stay crunchy before going limp in soup, though. What else needs a sprinkling of crunchy stuff -- top mashed potatoes with them? An after-baking topping on mac and cheese?
HP is adorable - happy birthday. She also looks like she's having a total blast. Could it be that for many of us, the happiest, most carefree time of our life was when we were one year old? And we can't even remember it! Oh, the humanity.
44: When I float stuff on soup, I often do it bit by bit. Toss in a crunch. Stir for a few seconds. Scoop up. Repeat. (I'm severely work-avoiding when I'm this far into thinking about my soup-eating habits.)
how long they'd stay crunchy before going limp
No time at all. Just leaving them on the baking tray with oil will turn them soggy in short order. I wholeheartedly agree about the awesomeness of kale chips, though. Possibly the best thing I've learned from Unfogged this year.
42, 47: I was soooo skeptical when I first saw them mentioned and now I'm mad at myself for waiting close to a year to try them. But at least I (and others) got to pass the awesomeness around.
I confess, however, that nothing could be more awesome than baby Hawaiian Punch. So adorable. I love the squeals of laughter.
Kids are fine when they're being all cute and shit, but they're even better when you can put them to work.
(Happy Birthday, HP!)
We liked the kale chips too. Although there seems to be some debate about when you should put the salt on? I burnt mine a bit, but still most of them didn't make it off the tray and were just shovelled into mouths. I went shopping today but there was no kale.
Interesting. Does this work better with kale than with any other leafy green vegetable? (Spinach, arugula, mustard greens, chard?)
I salt before and after and burn them a bit on purpose.
42: I tried them as soup garnish a while back, and although they looked very pretty, they did get soggy really fast. Better as a condiment on the side.
Happy birthday, HP!!
45: No, she was adorable at 11 months. We have no idea what's happened in the intervening month. Kids develop fast. For all we know she moved on to driving a fast car and cursing like a sailor.
52: I think you'd want a thick, tough green. I haven't tried it with anything but kale, but I bet spinach would just dry up and crumble to dust instead of turning to a crunchy thing. Chard, maybe, arugula, I would guess not.
He's no HP, obviously, but this little guy cracks me right up.
oh shit. I made kale chips a couple of times. They are the most acrid awful things i've had in a long time.
34: I think "condiments" is a common term for this in the coffee business. I often have to get cambros of coffee (ie, large prepared plastic containers of hot coffee) from Peet's or Starbucks for events, and all the sugar, sweetener, milk, creamer, etc, are always referred to as condiments by the stores. But yes the term takes some getting used to in this context.
OK, watched the video now. Unbelievably cute. But she's going to have to give up the little victory dance whenever she gets upright, if she wants to go anywhere.
For all we know she moved on to driving a fast car and cursing like a sailor.
And that's not adorable?
Happy Birthday HP. As the multitudes have said, you are adorable. Yaaay!
This video created intense womb pangs within me, but I will try to ignore them for now. But damn, it's hard when the baby is that cute. Congrats, Heebie, Jammies and H-Punch!
Happy Birthday. That's a great video.
Ok wow, that is super cute. Happy birthday!
Talking about kale chips today made me want some. I am using a hint of truffle oil this time.
Wow with the cuteness -- happy birthday!
(Are those BumGenius diapers?)
Thanks all!! It's amazing - that video is from Saturday, which is the first time she ever started standing up, and she can already stablilize for 20-30 seconds or so, while she pays attention to something else.
Klug - they are indeed BumGenius.
The video is from Saturday, today is Monday, today is her birthday, and that video is labeled "11 Months"? That's totally cheating. The video should be labeled "Almost One!"
Well, for most of this morning it was labelled "11 Weeks". So we're really doing quite well, accuracy-wise.
72 to the fact that I could have sworn it was labeled 11 weeks, and I actually watched the whole video thinking "11 weeks? Damn, she's big and active for 11 weeks. How is that even possible? That's not even three months old..." I'd even half-composed a comment to this effect, when I looked again and saw that the video was labeled "11 Months". "Damn, all that puzzling for nothing. I really need another cup of coffee. I feel sorry for anyone who's paying for my work today." And then I forgot all about the whole thing. Until now, when I see that I wasn't confused, you just cheated. This is sickening.
Happy birthday, Hawaiian Punch? Stanley Fish begs to differ.
"Hey I hear that in addition to having a weird wife, Landers is easily confused in the morning. Pass it on."
usually i think the only reason i'd want to spawn is the subversive thrill of treating children like people but this sort of makes me think i't be alright
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uSdQxKaBfU&feature=related
Aaaaaaaw - she is so adorable. If I were 30 years younger, I'd be tempted to go out and acquire one of my own. But I can't, so I have cats.
Happy Birthday, HP, and many lovely ones in future.
Oh wow, the cuteness! It is overwhelming!
and she can already stablilize for 20-30 seconds or so, while she pays attention to something else.
She's clearly going to be one of the most amazing athletes ever to grace the earth.
