I know that, Stanners, but "No soap, radio" wouldn't have served as a general-purpose answer the way "No, soap radio" does.
Presumably because "No" works with anything, whereas "No soap" would induce the listener to spend mental effort trying to link "soap" into the prior discussion which isn't really all that humorous. In addition you have the added absurdity of "soap radio" being the correction rather than merely the bland "radio". Very clever. How's that working out for you?
