Noted. On vellum, which is what I use for that type of noting.
Does the third paragraph answer the question posed at the beginning of the second?
No, but it does say "And, as Harris notes, hip-hop is nearly 50 years old", which accords somewaht poorly with the earlier statement that it began perhaps a little earlier than the 1970s.
Was this a program note written for the presenter, or something reprinted from elsewhere? Or could you tell?
It looks like not this presenter specifically, but for a service that provides program notes for a variety of presenters.
I'll bet they pay terribly. Not that that's an excuse, of course. My own program notes are scrupulously researched and carefully written, I'll have you know, and they earn me a pittance.
On the one hand, I hope she got paid decently, because this is a full three pages long; on the other hand, it sucks.
The "et al" sounds weird, but is it definitely wrong? Doesn't just mean "and others"?
In a music history sidelight, I just learned recently that Lil Louis' dad was a blues guitarist, in fact enough of one that he made a living from it. Continuity!
Hip hop started in the sixties? Why stop at the sixties?
Doesn't just mean "and others"?
Yeah, I guess the "al." could be "alia" rather than "alii".
Did I waste a whole sheet of vellum? Sheep aren't free you know.
