Why do hotels do that? Are there a lot of people who enjoy sleeping on supersoft mattresses? You should be able to specify firmness of the mattress when you book the room. "Nonsmoking, firm-mattress, king bed room."

Oh ghu I can sympathise. When feverish everything I touch feels strange and scary anyway (...ladyeez...) But to have a soft, cloying bed to put up with as well would be another kind of hell.
