Re: Dill feminists?

I am skeptical about this transcript.

So what exactly is d***?

'Damn', I suppose, but I can't imagine being touchy enough to blank that out. Or 'dank', if she lit up on break before sweeping. If I had to deal with interactions like this at work, I would too.

I'm a bit skeptical about the transcript as well, but I think there's also a chance we're being led astray by what might be a generous description of "older gentleman". Replace that with "schizo old hobo" and this gets a lot more believable. I know quite a few guys wandering around downtown who say crazy shit to people all the time.

The link from this post is the first thing my work's filter wouldn't let me look at. It says they have determined I am trying to look at "humor/jokes".

How can anyone not be a feminist today?

"The anti-abortion bill includes a provision that permits doctors to withhold from a mother any information that could possibly cause her to seek an abortion; it also prevents a medical malpractice suit from being filed should the woman and child subsequently have health issues, but does allow a wrongful death suit to be filed in the event of the mother's death. The bill also includes the end of a series of tax deductions relating to abortion. Opponents have said that bill will also impose a sales tax on abortions in the state, including those sought by rape victims."

9: I can't find anything pertinent in a quick Google search, but is there a federal regulation regarding informed consent? Because withholding information about the fetus is extremely problematic.

13: My medical ethics textbook describes Caterbury v. Spence as the case that "enshrined" the doctrine of informed consent in US law. Most of the rest of the material establishing informed consent comes from presidential bioethics commissions and policies for hospitals receiving federal funds.

I seem to have left my textbook at the office, which will now inhibit both productivity at work and in unfogged commenting.

17: Hmm, since that case isn't based on a statute, does that mean that Kansas actually can prevent wrongful birth lawsuits? Because it would be the doctor's fault if a women doesn't get an abortion because she didn't know that the baby had some debilitating issue that would cost millions in healthcare, a 24/7 nurse, etc. It looks like a couple in Oregon just got a $3 million judgment for wrongful birth of a baby with Down's syndrome.

There's a lot about informed consent in CMS's Conditions of Participation, but that's for hospitals and other institutional providers - not sure what applies to private practitioners.

d*** = "dastardly", of course. The phrase "older gentleman" indicates he was wearing a black caped coat and top hat and had a handlebar moustache, the ends of which he twirled with his fingers as he envisioned the young woman bound with rope and lying in the path of an oncoming train.

6: I'm not skeptical about the transcript (sure, the wording is just from memory, etc., but it looks as reliable as anything else at notalwaysright.com), but I have wondered about senility in the anecdotes on that site many times.

Senility, or for some of them I'm pretty sure the speaker is straightforwardly kidding, and is being reported as stupid rather than joking.

I think it's very unlikely that this older gentleman would wish to describe the feminists he is denouncing as being just.

Marginally related to feminism. My dad is in the hospital with sepsis and likely to be there for several weeks if you include rehab, because he'll need IV antibiotics.

He's my mon's caregiver, and they won't deal with assisted living stuff. My mom's friend helped out, and she sort of expected me to go up to assess the situation. Unpaid caregiving which I can't do.

Hospital social worker told me (because she's really more concerned about my Mom) that respite care, home health aid services and VNAs are all private pay. She's supposed to send me a list of resources like meals on wheels, but it's a different one there tomorrow, and I haven't heard back.

There's just no way that I can pay for home health aids. Maybe a VNA for a little while.

Fuck!
