Sucks, al, my sympathy. I would send a paper card if I could.

Trigger point injections don't sound too bad if upping the meds doesn't work. Here's an article on the research. Get Husband X to print it out and he can read it away prom the pixels.

Oh, man. I want to say reassuring things about how it will get better, but of course I don't know anything.

I'd think they'd be looking for some aftereffect of the paratyphoid you had last year, just because it was a weird health thing right when the bad migraines started, but again, I don't know anything and I'm sure your doctors do.

Sorry alameida. I'm off to the doctor again today. Of course, the last time I was in there, the mean alternate doctor was all "sometimes less is more" referring to the painkillers. Well, maybe, but the fact is they don't make a pill that's LESS than 5 mg oxycodone. So maybe in this case more would be more, except that you refuse to let me try it. Jackasses. Also, my friend's baby is sick with a mystery rash and every doctor says something different.

I am sad every time you tell us what's up and it's not that things are improving, which is not supposed to be a guilt-inducing remark. This sounds awful and has been going on for way too long and I hope this new plan will mean a way out. Natilo, for you too. Ugh ugh ugh.

I did a thing where they injected steroids right onto the nerve root that was causing leg pain and it worked really well. Right at the moment they inject the steroids the pain goes to 11 for about two seconds as they are putting pressure right at the most sensitive spot, but it fades immediately after once the meds start to do their thing. The needle is uncomfortable (and loooong!!!) but the process is kind of cool as they have to do the whole thing in an X-ray machine so they can steer the needle to the right spot.

I don't know if the intra-cranial nerve injection is also a steroid, but if it is and you go for it you might notice odd steroid side effects. I didn't get roid rage or anything, but I did get a breakout of zits on my chest in a pattern that's apparently characteristic of steroid use.

Sounds awful. No pain is good but agonising head-located nerve pain has to be the worst.
I too have gone on reading when I knew well I was making a headache worse. You have to have something while you lie on your bed of pain.

I have to admit I'm not at all up to date on your condition or your history that you may have relayed here, so excuse me if this question is redundant and you've already tried it, but have you focused on your diet? I had a friend who had terrible chronic pain and removed wheat, gluten, refined foods, etc, from her diet and it cleared up significantly.

Also, I too wish your sponsor had stopped by. I am happy for you that friends are bringing a meeting to you. Always good.

I too am anti-pain for alameida.

I will also go on record for BR and I taking a shift (a week, a month, a season, whatever it takes) of lounging at your vacation place, bringing you tea/lemonade and reading Unfogged threads to you.

I have many thousands of hours of experience in reading books in funny voices due to my obsessive girl forcing me to read books over and over to her.

In anticipation of your acceptance of my offer, I will spend the next several hours working on perfecting my impressions of the various Unfogged voices. As Chief Artistic Director of this project, I deem it appropriate to utilize the voice that they project on Unfogged, not their boring actual voices.

If I can get her over there, my daughter and I will also do Pain, Pain, Go Away Dances for the amusement of you and your clan.

I had a friend who was scrawny and sickly his whole life and then it turned out that his stomach bacteria was all fucked up with some other bacteria and he took a bunch of anti-biotics and was fine.

Also, my neighbor had been on all kinds of crazy restrictions for decades, couldn't eat wheat or rice or corn or oats or practically any kind of grain, and then he had colon surgery and now he's doing great and can eat anything he has a mind to.

So, you know, "allopathic medicine": sometimes it is the cure for what ails you.

Yeah, I read a while ago about a woman who essentially switched gut flora by taking enough antibiotics to kill her own, then eating a pill with her son's poop in it, introducing his gut flora to her cleaned out system. If I'm recalling correctly, this nearly instantly ended her years-long battle with IBS.

thanks guys. I appreciate all the good wishes. Im'a read a magazine. not about anthony bourdain, though, that guy's starting to get on my nerves. a shelter magazine. not about depressed hispters, about happy aspirational UMC australians. it's very interesting. they have nice weather. well, in the bits they put the pretty houses in. whastit where you're living in the caves underground doesn't get enough love. coober peedy? that sounds silly. girl x had an australian english textbook last year so all the map examples were about kangaroo island and so on. girl y has a new teacher mid-term (drama, long story, school lost a great teacher by being petty dicks) and she is genuinely new to teaching. she gave the kids a math worksheet that relied upon knowing the values of US currency. some other kids working on it after school in the canteen came to girl y to ask, since she's american but she had to say "I have no idea." best question from girl x on the subsequent explaining "is harriet tubman on any money in america?" don't I fucking wish.

Sorry al. I'd love to chime in with a "That happened to me, but it gets better" story. But all I've got is a "That happened to me, but then I went from episodic to chronic and it's been all downhill from there." story, which may not be kind of story you're looking for right about now. :(

I want to play with my children. Sometimes I hear them playing in the other room and I know I'm too tired to see them and I just cry, it is the happiest, saddest sound.

This. All the time, this. It just breaks my heart on a day to day basis. My daughter has no recollection of me being healthy; she only knows me as sick and frail and too tired to play and run with her.

Trying hard to make peace with this...to little success.

A friend of mine lost her gut flora while going through a period of extreme grief. She got really skinny, and food, particularly vegetables, would pass through her basically undigested. She had to start introducing bacteria back into her system, building up with yogurt and such. It seemed so stressful to me: how do you pick the right yogurt for introducing the little critters that are going to become part of your body?

I'm so sorry wink, that sounds terrible. I hope that your condition someday improves, although things sound intractable at the moment. also, natilo, I hope you are seeing the nice doctor next time and that you get the treatment and pain relief you need. I'm sorry you've had such a shitty...er, 14 months or something? it's been bad.

I used to joke about being the mother in somerset maugham stories, where the maid brings the kids in for just a little while but then yanks them out because they're "tiring mummy," and now I fucking am that. my daughters hide by the bed when lovely rita comes in to give them a bath, half joking. saw too many people today and fucking tired myself out, also minor looking at words cheatage as can be documented here. good night all, and good health to all...
