It's pretty clear that the scholars think most of these men need killin', but that doesn't mean the women in question deserve to have to become murderers.
Move to Florida and they may be able to avoid becoming murderers in a technical, legal sense.
She uses absolute number of IPH and rate of IPH kinda inconsistently. From the breakout graphs, it's clear that there are only two rates that haven't decreased (while all the rest have): IPH against white girlfriends and IPH against black boyfriends.
Am I missing something? It looks like IPH against black men has diminished dramatically, from about 800 in 1975 to maybe 200 in 2005,
Against black men has decreased dramatically, but almost entirely from the husband/ex-husband category. Against black boyfriends started off low and never changed much.
The second chart is the only one that breaks out by type of relationship, so the quickly falling rate for black men is averaging the precipitously falling rate for black husbands and the level rate for black boyfriends.
I notice, also, that regardless of race or gender, murders of spouses seem to have decreased faster than murders of non-married partners, which too is consistent with movement to less restrictive marriages with more opportunity for voice and exit.
This thread is going to get really depressing.
But murder rates are down! That's a good thing! Celebrate.
Obviously, if you are a black male whose girlfriend won't tie the knot, you're as good as murdered by her.
Cliche would definitely have it that the girlfriend just won't tie the knot.
Did you know that murder of an ex-husband or ex-wife is overwhelmingly likely to involve a gun, whereas murder of a boyfriend or same-sex partner is most likely to involve a knife?
12: That is precisely the sort of thing I mean. I'll be at Cute Overload.
9: That was our second choice for that song.
I think this is probably a specific case of the general rule about it being easier to stab somebody who is asleep.
I was thinking that murders of exes are much more likely to be premeditated while murders of current boyfriends/girlfriends are likely to be unpremeditated defense or rage and people are more likely to have a handy knife than a gun.
But what are the rates of bros icing bros?
Super interesting, but I've got nothing in particular to say. Segregation by income and population density would have been interesting also, but there aren't that many data points. I agree about the conclusion (women's shelters save bad men).
My closest personal contact is a friend's jury duty for an attempted murder, laborer attacked a girlfriend who dumped him.
