Not the best team in baseball as of today.

Reading finished the season top of the league and are thus being promoted into the top one.

The Cubs suck even more than usual. Seriously. Before the Padres games this week, we'd lost 12 games on the trot. It's going to be a long season.

The Orioles seem to have completed the "get my hopes up" portion of the season, and have begun their free-fall.

Ginger Yellow, aren't you British? Why are you a Cubs fan? Do you want a life of misery?

British and American. My family is from Illinois. I inherited my Cubs fandom from my grandpa.

I see. A grim legacy of Cubs fandom haunts Yellow family down through the generations. Tragic, really.

"Why Wrigley Field Must Be Destroyed". Recent opinion piece from Rich Cohen. I was intrigued by "Jared Diamond contributed to this article"--maybe as an expert on collapses.

Even more so when you consider that my football team is Oxford United, and I didn't start following them until well after their (relatively speaking) glory years.

14: But back in the League recently! The long march back to the top has begun. Wikipedia has a handy graph.

5, 15.1: I'd so like the US/North American leagues to adopt the promotion/relegation model.

And we only just missed out on the League Two playoffs this year. We'll probably be in the giddy heights of League One (aka the third division) in 18 months.

Here in America we prefer our that our sports teams function under a gentler, more egalitarian league model than those ruthless meritocracies they have on the other side of the pond.

The Pirates need a few more years in the major leagues to keep up payments on the new stadium.

Meh. Most would fold.

A cousin of mine roots for Hibernian FC, which, I see from his FB posts, seems to have survived another year. I suggested he take up the Cubs as well.

Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do in New Orleans? I'm heading down there for a sort of birthday thing, and I gather it's a rather free-form schedule (which I appreciate). So I can suggest anything: museum, historical thing, nature thing, bar, restuarant. Whatever.

Ready, go.
