count me in for brunch, unless something comes up and I can't make it.
Sunday's a little better for us than Saturday, but we're flexible.
We'll be bringing the kids, so kid-friendly. Freddie's on S. 1st has a playground, but that's not crucial.
Let me be the first to suggest Freddie's at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Sniffle sniffle, Smearcase misses Austin.
I already have brunch plans for Sunday, but could probably make Saturday. I don't want to inconvenience Kraab (or anyone else), though, since I'd probably just lurk at the meetup, the way I lurk here. Maybe I could hide in a corner and glance over every once in a while, between spurts of work.

Freddie's isn't that kind of establishment.
Sunday is only minimally more convenient. I'm happy to move it to Saturday if that means sral will come.
I think Freddie's opens at 11.
So now that this thread is totally dead... tomorrow at Freddie's at 11?
i presume that was addressed to me
Pretty sure it wasn't addressed to anybody in particular, but was just a joke.
16: Are you sure, apo? I thought it was addressed to me. M/tch thinks I'm racist.
Sniffle sniffle, Smearcase misses Austin.
Dry your eyes, Smearcase, and tell LB and me and the rest where we should go for a drink in New York on the 28th that isn't soggy.
I think it was addressed to Spartacus.
18: What about the Campbell Apartment? It's in Grand Central, so convenient for the trains of your choice, and I've always liked it. It is the last bar in NY with a dress code, though, so it only works if everyone coming remembers not to wear sneakers. (I don't think there's any particular standard other than sneakers, but I've been turned away because I was with people wearing running shoes.)
Or someone else suggest something. I hate picking venues, because I hardly go out other than the two bars in my neighborhood and Fresh Salt with you people.
20 sounds good! And, since I don't plan to be doing any sneaking, I won't bring sneakers.
I think we may need reservations to get a decent size table -- I'll check.
Please bump the "Shall we summon another Hurricane?" post to the front page again at the appropriate time with updated information because I almost missed this.
Where exactly in Grand Central is it? I hope the no sneakers rule is all there is to the dress code.
Did anyone hear how Fresh Salt fared and is it truly out of the running?
I tried calling FS, and their phone is still out of service (or was as of last week sometime), which suggests that so are they. The Campbell Apartment is a little tricky to find -- it's in the southwest corner of Grand Central. Wander around a bit and look for discreet signage, and you'll find it.
The WaPo mentioned Fresh Salt in an article:
Around the corner, Jason Connolly, 38, knew a guy who knew a guy who could get him a work crew. As his pub, called Fresh Salt, was being blasted with dryers and gutted to the ceiling, Connolly walked outside and extended his tattooed arm toward a parking sign that he couldn't quite touch. "That P is where the water was," he said. Connolly is 6-foot-7.
I'm shedding a tear here. NMM to Fresh Salt.
And may I be the first to suggest that the next person who is the first to suggest Fresh Salt be permanently banned?
25 is very sad. I am on the verge of Smearcasing.
Is 14 happening? I'll have to set an alarm if I'm going to get up that early, but I'll do it if I see any kind of confirmation before I go to bed.
27: Confirmation is yours at the bumped-up post.
Well, shoot. Now I'm going to have to learn how to use the alarm function on my clock.
There is a help rebuild Fresh Salt donation page.

30: Orange post title!!!
Also, apostropher in 15 gets it exactly right.
No liveblog, but we had a lovely brunch and managed to avoid getting the waiter in trouble with the management. Sorry for springing the surprise visitor on you guys, though!
Aw, I got a verb of my own.
The visitor was lovely and not such a surprise, what with you referring to "we" and "us" several times over the course of discussing time and venue.
As for smearcase the verb, the fact that it, in a roundabout way, sprang from apostropher's loins makes it all the more delightful.
This has all made me very nostalgic for my Austin meetup 2+ years ago. I'm so glad to think of all of you having a good time.
Wait, is it laughing so hard you thro up bld or lighting a candle on International Seatback Opera Translation Commemoration Day?
39: I've been to the opera with you. You always turn off the translation.
38: In fact at this meet-up we talked about your Austin visit.
Allow me to be the first to make a joke about going to Austin so that people can talk about talking about Thorn's visit during Heebie's visit.
I'm confused by 42. During my visit?
Also when I was about two we had an exchange student, and we took a family vacation, and I thought the funniest thing ever was that she was on a trip on a trip.
The other funniest thing ever at that age - possibly the same trip - was "It's not YOURami, it's MI-ami!"
45.1: She could have gone for the hat trick and dropped acid.
45: That's some seriously big hilarity. How's that project coming, anyhow?
Question: Are there any commenters in Colorado?
So for the 28th, I'm likely not going to be there unless it's quite early.
50: Breakfast with Smearcase in Austin on the 28th? COOL!
48: Ugh, stalled out. I finished it, sort of, but now feel like I either need to start massively detailed artistic revisions or start farming it out to people, and have time for neither of those tasks, so it's collecting dust.
52: Well, what we saw of it was awesome, and awesome will keep.
Aw, thanks!
I posted the illustrations up on a tumblr, but it's under my real name. (But if anyone's curious, email me.)
Wait I thought the 28th was the NYC...I am getting confused with various meetup threads. I am easily confused.
55: I'm much too faint of heart.
NYC is the 28th, and I'll bump it as soon as I get home. I can probably skip out of work to get there by 6 or so.
Also, someone should come up with someplace quieter than the Campbell Apartment. I like it because I like the space, but it's noisy and crowded after work. I just couldn't think of a really quiet bar I like that's conveniently located.
57: I've seen lots of them at the other place, and they're really fetching. Also, I have no critical vocabulary for art (not that I have much for literature), so I don't have the option of saying anything cutting in detail.
If it were somewhere on the west side at 6, I'd come for an hour, which is to say, probably plan this without me because it's silly to plan around someone who's just stopping in for an hour?
I won't be there, where ever that turns out to be, till sometime after 7:30.
