I can't do the 25th or 27th. Or, I'd have to be later than the dinner hour. Otherwise, I'm free those evenings.
Groovy. Dinner or just drinks is fine with me.
Also, I'll be staying downtown, so should be able to get around easily.
Right now I'm available any evening.
Ugh, I'm barely available at all. 24th and 26th, although I could probably show up latish (after 8) on the 27th.
Let''s make it a themed meetup: Everybody comes prepared to talk about their favorite longform Caitlin Flanagan piece.
The birthday tour! Get your T-shirts.
I'm busy tomorrow and Saturday, but am otherwise available.
Let me be the first to suggest Fresh Salt.
Hmm, this is upon us and we are quite disorganized and have conflicting availability. I'm going to suggest the 26th Wednesday for dinner plus drinks, maybe someplace downtown like Six Penn (certainly open to other suggestions from the knowledgeable and/or opinionated) at say, 6:30 or 7. (Now that I need to restrict drinking, I would selfishly prefer more than just drinks.)
Also open to tour guide duties to Warhol or anything else. And we will most likely attend this dance/music show on Thursday the 27th (Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" plus another piece with some musicians I know) and any one is welcome to join us, but it does require advance reservations.
That sounds good. I don't know enough about downtown restaurants to suggest one. I'll only go to the Warhol if the rumor about the dog penis collection is true and somebody knows where it is.
Y'all should go to Church Brewworks.
They have a collection of dog penises?
No, but they make beer in the place where the pipe organ used to be.
To be fair, I don't think Six Penn has a collection of dog penises either.
So you're down at least two dog penis collections and a pipe organ? The mystery deepens.
17: Thank goodness you're still alive! Though maybe you've been commenting all weekend and I was just away. Sir K is vegetarian, though, so be wary of anyone encouraging you to this meetup!
I'm surprisingly meaty for an eggplant.
And little Eggplant sprung up his head and so amazed them all
I swear I commented this morning suggesting the 26th, but I guess it didn't post from the airport. Anyway, thanks to Stormcrow for getting the plans going.
Six Penn sounds good to me. What time is best for people?
Please baby, pleasebaby, please baby, baby baby please!
I don't get 24, but I'm going to assume everybody checks Pittsburgh news sites often and gets 23.
I would, but I'm over my article limit for the week.
Could somebody bump this? And 6:30 seems like a good time to start drinking.
I just got through sending Cosma and Rance the secret password.
25: There's a special screening of She's Gotta Have It at Standpipe's blog.
If we're going email, we probably don't need this bumped.
Bumping is good. See 8 for instance, an email address I don't think I have.
I just didn't want to be an asshole about it.
1994 was very good for me.
I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast any time", so I ordered French toast during the Renaissance.
Sorry, here's my address. Still Six Penn?
37: Yes. Six Penn @6:30. I will try to get there a bit early. There is a downstairs bar (fills up sooner, but will I look to be there if I can) and an upstairs one. I am largish person with white hair and beard, Send me email if want my cell. Not sure how many will come. Let me know since I currently have a res at 8PM for 6 people at Sonoma Grille (Six Penn only had 4s). Will cancel that unless get enough (we can also get food in Six Penn bar). Sorry for complicated directions. Get there 6:30-7 and we will make it up as we go.
Kraab is tall too.
The commenter formerly known for being an anagram of Salami Schizo sends his regrets but authorized us to celebrate his recent positive tenure news.
Tired now; work week turned bad. Will check in tomorrow morning.
39.2: He changed his name after tenure?
It would be awesome if you got to change your name after tenure. My name henceforth shall be Professor Ferocious VonTesticles!! Bow before me, fools.
42 had me idly wondering about what the tenure analog of the breast-free thread is until I remembered that analogies are banned.
Thanks for organizing this. I'm a middling-heighted white male with short light brown hair and beard, and I'll have a dark blue peacoat on. I've had better luck seating a group with the upstairs bar, but I'll check both.
I'm a middling-heighted white male who has at some point in his life had short light brown hair and a beard but never owned a peacoat.
Have fun, Pittsburgh meeters. I miss you! And you especially, Rance, who should comment more!
Uh, you can change your name any time you want, 43. I suggest "Ripper Owens".
YAAAAAAAAAY LIVEBLOGGING YAAAAAAAAAY
Is Kraab doing that thing she does with the standing on the bar and the knives?
you mean http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HI8E_61sWno ?
So it turns out you're all real and awesome, not a fever dream. That's reassuring. I'm at a bar with Moby now.
60: No fair. I'm back at my desk.
I had a Rusty Nail back at the today first place. Anyway, home now. Very cold nose. Couch spinning a bit.
Enh, I have work that needs done. Desk would be better. I suspect Moby and I are both of the personality type that will keep each other drinking long after it's sensible to do so.
The Keoke coffee at the first place was pretty good. I've only been there for drinks and didn't know that they had 25$ entrees and delightfully smartass waitstaff. Also: While we're all bettering the world, or at least not making it much worse, I'm distinctly impressed with Sir Kraab in their work to better the world. (Stormcrow and Moby are also superbly awesome and wise.)
Is there some magic I need to access the flickr feed? Email is in 37.
66: This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
(As long as you liveblog it.)
