The sanctity of off-blog communication really is dead, isn't it?
I didn't tell you that he thinks I gave it to him via our hot manblogger on manblogger sexytime.
Well fuck. Blogging causes cancer , doesn't it?
My uncle was diagnosed with mm about eight years ago. I'm sorry to hear about Drum. Conventional wisdom is that mm is not what kills you, but having unpleasant treatments for the rest of your life is pretty awful.
I'm so comparatively relieved to hear that his prognosis looks fairly positive.
7: Someone I know with two youngish kids has breast cancer. I think she's had it for a bit. Her Facebook page said just that: "Fuck cancer."
4.5 year median survival doesn't seem terribly positive, not to put too fine a point on it.
10... yeah. Goddamn biology is such a fucking tenuous hack.
Kevin is fond of appending a sarcastic "Best in the world, baby!" to his posts about the U.S. healthcare system. Fortunately for him, oncology care is one area where that claim can be credibly made with a straight face (for well insured patients in the right metro areas, anyway). I hope it does the trick for him.
10: the latest treatments are much better than that.
Specifically the velcade, which kd mentions.
IIRC, there's not really a remission. Just cycles on and off treatment forever. The side effects can get pretty unpleasant over time.
I suspect that's why he differentiated between a fairly positive short-term prognosis and a much cloudier "medium term" prognosis, which depended on part on how reatement options develop.
13, 14: that's very good to hear.
Oh, thank goodness. I was guessing bad cancer from the earlier posts and writing eulogies. Looks like I can save all the nice things I was going to say indefinitely.
No conspiracy theories about Big Lead? Disappointing, that.
m Henley tweeted that he and KD have the same birthday, two years apart.
Standpipe is thinking about it. Really thinking about it.
Oh dear, that's terrible news. Not the worst possible news, but bad enough.
My "Fuck cancer" anger is somewhat counterbalanced by my "Standpipe!" joy.
